Rice Planters Amateur
Snee Farm Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, SC
The Rice Planters Amateur was the inspiration of amateur golfer Dick Horne. During his first Porter Cup at the Niagara Falls Country Club in 1973, Horne befriended cup chairman Dick Harvey. Harvey encouraged a receptive Horne to develop his own southern tournament and, consequently, along with other Porter Cup officials, shared enough useful information to get Horne started in the South.
Since then, the Rice Planters Amateur has become one of the top ten amateur tournaments in the country. This invitational amateur event is conducted at stroke play over four days and 72 holes. The tournament has hosted many great amateur players over the years such as Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, Hal Sutton, Stewart Cink, and Scott Hoch.
The winner of the IJGT Tour Championship in the Boys 15-19 Division will qualify for the Rice Planters Amateur.
