IJGT at The Legends at Parris Island - Final Round Results
EDMONDSON WINS WITH FINAL ROUND HEROICS
Shin Takes Home First Title
BEAUFORT, SC – This weekend the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to the Parris Island Military Marine Base for their tournament at The Legends Golf Club. This historic club, which highlights American Marine heroes of the past on every hole, saw some outstanding play from our entire field. Both days of competition were set under hot, muggy, sunny days of 80 degree weather, which forced the players to work on their endurance and stamina throughout the rounds. The golf course was in excellent condition and all of the children raved about the spectacular greens and fairways that were available to them.
In the Boys 15-19 Division we saw intense competition on this Master’s Sunday between Noah Edmondson of Davidson, NC and Javi Godoy of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Godoy had an unimaginable round in Saturdays opening round, shooting 67 and breaking The Legends course record in the process. Edmondson showed up very consistent on both days of the outing shooting 71-73 respectively. Following the completion of the second round, Edmondson was able to close the gap between himself and our opening round leader Godoy, leaving themselves deadlocked with scores of 144, even-par for the tournament. The competitors headed to the short par-4, No. 1 to start their playoff. Both gentlemen were on the green with a chance to make a par putt which saw Edmondson remain calm, cool and collected as he nailed a clutch 12-footer to take the championship. Edmondson also earned the Druh Belts Low Final Round Belt Buckle during Sunday’s round. Godoy ended the tournament with second place honors and his legacy to remain in the club house for shooting a 67. Finishing in third place was Poom Pattaropong of Bangkok, Thailand shooting 75-73 for a two-day total of 148, 4-over par.
Noah Edmondson talked about his playoff experience after the round, “I was not nervous until the final putt, my heart was pounding, but I was able to take a deep breath and sink the putt. This was one of my most excited IJGT experiences yet.”
In the Boys U-14 Division Gus Uriostegui achieved his first ever IJGT victory. Uriostegui of Leon, Mexico shot very practical rounds of 77-78 to earn the victory. He was very happy with his chipping and his play around the green
and it really propelled his win this weekend. Coming in second place this weekend was Alex Shattuck of Sioux Falls, SD. Alex earned his 3rd second place victory this season posting scores of 82-80. Rounding out the top-3 in the Boys U-14 Division was Ryan Baker of Houston, TX. Baker shot a total of 168 for the weekend.
Uristegui discussed how he was able to get the victory, “I was able to get a lot of great up and downs and use my short game to my advantage. I was not hitting my irons quite where I wanted to, so it was important to get some great chips.”
The Girls U-19 Division was host to some great play from all of our competitors this weekend. Julia Shin of Campinas, Brazil earned her first IJGT win of the season. Shin came in second place in her last competition at Forest Hills, but due to rain on Sunday was not able to play a second round to capitalized on
her great first round play and was determined to get the victory this weekend. Shin shot scores of 83-81 to earn the first place trophy and the Druh Belts Low Final Round Belt Buckle for her performance on Sunday. Coming in second place this weekend was Bria’ Sanders of Cordova, TN. Bria’ shot scores of 82-85 on her way to earn first runner-up. Landing in third place with weekend was Carley Stenger of Woodbine, MD who ended the two-day tournament with a final score of 168.
Julia shin went on to say how she earned her victory this weekend, “My game off the tee and my putting where pretty solid all weekend. I knew if I putt well on Sunday that I had a chance at the victory and really practiced hard, it ended up paying off.”
