Highlighted Players of the Week
This past weekend the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) held events in the Southeast and Northeast region of the country at The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes in Hardeeville, S.C., and The Architects Golf Club in Lopatcong, N.J. The IJGT saw exceptional players in both events that earned them the Highlighted Player of The Week.
Southeast Highlighted Players of the Week
For the Tour Event held at Hilton Head Lakes, our very own Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (HHIJGA) student, Laura Restrepo, of Panama City, Panama., claimed her fifth career win with the IJGT. She came out really strong shooting an incredible first round 4-under-par 68 to take an early lead by five strokes. On Sunday, she impressed everyone even more posting a 5-under-par 67 to win the tournament by ten strokes. Her tournament total of 9-under-par 135 is the lowest total score on the IJGT this year. For the tournament she had a total of 12 birdies, 21 pars and only three bogeys.
The Boys Southeast Highlighted Player of the Week is our very own HHIJGA student, Mark Folkwein, of New Albany, Ohio, who finally ended up with his first IJGT win which he has been waiting for this whole season. Folkwein shot a first round even-par 72 leaving him in a four-way-tie for first place. In the final round, he came out stronger than the first day shooting a one-under-par 71 to win the tournament by two strokes. For the tournament he had a total of six birdies, 25 pars and five bogeys. We look forward seeing Folkwein back in action at Oyster Reef, October 29-30, 2011.
Northeast Highlighted Players of the Week

The IJGT saw two talented players this weekend at Architects Golf Club. Luck Edelman of Mahwah, NJ and Emily Mills, of Farmingdale, NJ earned themselves the honor of being the Northeast Highlighted Players of the Week.

Edelman of the Boys 15-19 Division had an outstanding tournament on the challenging Architects Golf Club course. Edelman started the tournament off with a fantastic first round as he shot a 74, 3 over-par. In the final round of the tournament Edelman came back shooting the same score, (74, 3 over-par) which was enough for him to tie for first place and force a playoff. The playoff, which lasted one hole, was the true highlight of the weekend. Edelman was tested both mentally and physically as he drove his first shot of the playoff well right of the fairway and in the thick rough. After finding his ball Edelman hit a well srtuck iron shot just short of the green which allowed him to have a comfortable chip at the hole. After a gut retching 2-putt Edelman pared the hole, and he collected his first victory with the IJGT this year. Edelman had seven birdies and 19 pars as he shot a two round total of 148.

Mills of the Girls U-19 Division was a notable highlight this weekend on the Northeast Tour. This was Mills’ first IJGT event, and she made an impact as she was this year’s Girls U-19 Division Champion at Architects Golf Club. Mills enter the final round three strokes off the lead after shooting an 80 in the first round. Mills battled back in her final round to shot a 77, giving her a total of 157 for the weekend. Mills had two birdies and an impressive 20 pars.
