IJGT Family Weekend at Port Royal
IJGT Returns to Port Royal Golf Club for Family Weekend
Written by: Catherine Gunnarsson
(Hilton Head Island, S.C.) - Port Royal Golf Club, located on Hilton Head Island, S.C., will be host site for International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Family Weekend at the Barony Course. The event, which will include some of the top junior golfers in the country, will take place February 25-26, 2012.
Port Royal is a part of the Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island, and is composed of three courses, each one giving a new and different experience. Designed by George W. Cobb in the early 1960’s, the Barony course will challenge the players with its Bermuda greens surrounded by thick rough and numerous bunkers. The course will be a test for the juniors as control will be rewarded more than distance.

IJGT has designated this Tour Event as Family Weekend, where participants’ families are encouraged to attend. There will be numerous activities throughout the weekend that will allow players and their families to interact with IJGT staff, including a practice round for players and their families as well as a family cookout. Additionally, there will be opportunities to meet with IJGT Mental Training and College Placement coaches as well as coaches from the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Association.
The spotlight of the Tour Event will be on all players but someone to watch in the event is a Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy Student, Mickey Werenski of South Hadley, Massachusetts. In the Fall, Mickey won his third IJGT tournament at Falcons Fire Golf Club and he is looking to get his second win for the 2011/2012 season.
First round of competition will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 25, and will continue with the second round on Sunday, February 26. The awards ceremony following the round will recognize tournament champions in their respective divisions. The event will be nationally ranked by Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard.
