Highlighted Players of the Week: Ghamande and Sasaki

This past weekend's IJGT Major Championship at Kiawah Island, on February 18-19, 2012, saw many outstanding players.  Two players that stood out more than others were Salil Ghamande of Evans, GA, winner of the Boys 14 & Under Division and Moyu Sasaki of Tokyo, Japan, winner of the Girls Division. 

 

Someone who is fairly new to the IJGT but has been successful early on is Salil Ghamande. Back in November, 2011, he won the Major Championship at Port Royal Golf Club and this weekend was no different as he finished with his second Major Championship victory. After firing two consistent rounds of 77 and 79 for a total of 156 he ended up with the trophy. Salil credits his win to his ability to stay focused and trying to stay loose. For the tournament he had a total of nine bogeys, three doubles, 21 pars and three birdies.  

A girl who is not new to the spotlight is Moyu Sasaki who won her third tournament with the IJGT this season. During the season she has had nine top-3 finishes. This past weekend at Kiawah Island Resort she won by one stroke after shooting 77-74 for a total of 151. Throughout the tournament she had a total of 22 pars, five birdies, seven bogeys and only two others which helped her to take home the Major Championship Title. We look forward seeing Moyu in her next event February 26-27, 2012 at IJGT Family Weekend at Port Royal Barony Course.

The IJGT provides exceptional junior golfers with the opportunity to develop and showcase their competitive skills while setting high standards to preserve the traditions and integrity of the game.  As a tour that operates primarily throughout the academic year, the IJGT hosts approximately 60 tournaments annually.
