IJGT Junior at Hilton Head National - Final Round Results
Terrazas Triumphs at Hilton Head National
Nakatani Captures First Title in the Girls Division
BLUFFTON, S.C. – Some of the most talented junior golfers came in the region to compete in the two-day, 36-hole International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Junior held at Hilton Head National Golf Club. The closing holes on the Gary Player design provided a great amphitheater for an exciting finish in the Boys 15-19 Division and Girls Division.

Aaron Terrazas of Mexico City, Mexico claimed first place in the Boys 15-19 Division. After round one of the tournament, Terrazas was tied for fifth with a score of 1-over-par 72. Going into the final round, Terrazas maintained his strong start, making eight pars and a birdie through the first nine holes. Hitting his stride going into the back nine, he would clinch the victory with two birdies and five pars. The most pivotal point of the day came on No. 17 where Terrazas drained a long birdie putt, while his fellow competitors made par and bogey. On No. 18, Terrazas finished with a two-putt par for a final round score of 1-under-par 70. This tournament is Terrazas's first win of the 2012-2013 season and his tenth first place finish overall with the IJGT.
Terrazas's score of 1-under-par 70 on Sunday earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, which is given to the player who records the lowest score during Sunday's final round.
When asked about his mindset going into the final round after trailing, Terrazas replied, "Well, I was tied for fifth yesterday, and today was just play solid golf. Just try and go and be aggressive on the holes when you can be, and you have to make birdies to catch the leader, and I did it. I was hitting the ball great. I was putting really solid."
In a tie for second place with a tournament total of 1-over-par 143 were Poom Pattaropong of Bangkok, Thailand and Patrick Albanesi of Avon, Conn.

Taking home the trophy in the Boys 14 & Under Division was Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (HHIJGA) student, Tennoshin Ogawa. Ogawa carried a strong 10-stroke lead into round two of the tournament after firing a 2-under-par 69 on day one. This was the 13-year-old’s lowest competitive round ever recorded. He managed to maintain his lead during the final round with nine pars and two birdies, giving him an overall score of 3-over-par 145 for the tournament.
When asked about how he felt about his first win, Ogawa simply replied, "This was my first win, I’m so happy, and I want more."
Finishing in second place was Taisuke Ono of Tokyo, Japan with a tournament total of 155. Rounding out the division in third place was Eli Lemkin of Piney Flats, Tenn., with an overall score of 163.

HHIJGA student, Rei Nakatani of Tokyo, Japan took home the first place trophy in the Girls Division. Round one of the tournament proved to be a solid and memorable day for Nakatani as she made her first hole-in-one of her junior golf career on hole No. 15 at Hilton Head National. Heading into the final round of the tournament, Nakatani held a three-stroke lead over fellow competitor Kelly Whaley of Farmington, Conn. Nakatani got off to a shaky start playing her first nine holes in 6-over-par. The last nine holes were a completely different story. She made seven consecutive pars, including a clutch par on No. 9, to close out her round of 78 on Sunday. In total, Nakatani finished with a tournament total of 151.
"I was actually really nervous on No. 9. I just had to get my second shot onto the green and two-putt, and when I did it, I felt really good, but I think, throughout the day I just stuck to my plan," commented Nakatani when asked about her strategy during Sunday's final round.
Cake Phuchanbanchob of Chiang Mai, Thailand and Whaley tied for second place in the Girls Division with tournament scores of 152.
Phuchanbanchob's score of 3-over-par 74 on Sunday earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, which is given to the player who records the lowest score during Sunday's final round.
