Daubert Dominates Hershey

Galantino wins in thrilling fashion

Hershey, PA - Hershey Country Club was the site of this weekend’s 54-hole International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) event. Many of the brightest young golfers in the world battled it out on the East Course, which provides plenty of daunting challenges and a breathtaking countryside for all to enjoy.Clear skies and seasonal temperatures were in the golfers favor as many posted very impressive total scores.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Alex Daubert of Hanover, Pennsylvania displayed stellar shot making and mental toughness throughout the grueling three-day tournament to claim the first place trophy. With rounds of 74, 74, and 76 Alex finished with a tournament total of 224.Finishing in second place was Ryan Harris of Carlisle, Massachusetts after he posted very impressive scores of 74, 78, and 74 for a tournament total of 226.Rounding out the top three was J. Harrison Brink II of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. After firing a 78 and 79 for his first two rounds, Brink claimed the coveted low round belt buckle after his final round 70 for a total score of 227.

After three days of great play, Alex Daubert was both a very deserving and very humble champion. This is his first victory with the IJGT.“I just kept telling myself that I was the best player out there and believed I could win the entire time.”This winners mentality will certainly lead to a bright future for Alex, who is looking forward to high school golf at Hanover High School as well as competing in more tournaments.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Christopher Navarro of Davidsonville, Maryland grabbed the lead after the first round and never relinquished the top spot. After rounds of 73 and 75, Chris was the leader by two strokes heading in to Monday’s final round. He clinched the win with a final round of 74 for a tournament total of 222.Jacob Leavitt of Woodstock, Maryland battled his way to a second place finish after he fired rounds of 79, 73 and 71 for a total score of 223.Sun Kim, who finished in third place, is no stranger to the IJGT leader board.Sun carded rounds of 74, 76, and 76 for a total score of 226.The low final round belt buckle was awarded to Jacob Leavitt and Jesse Clemente of Staten Island, New York after both posted a 71 on Monday.

Throughout the entire tournament, Christopher Navarro led the cluttered leader board. This was his second visit to Hershey Country Club, which seems to fit his game very well.“The course has wide fairways and smooth greens. I was able to play consistent and keep the ball on the fairways and greens all weekend.”

The Girls 19 & Under Division offered plenty of drama as the final round was back and forth until the final hole.Rising to the top of the pack was Izzy Galantino from Westbury, New York.Izzy trailed the leader by two strokes after her first round score of 80, but fought back with two great rounds of 77 and 78 to finish with a total of 235.Finishing a close second was Kelly Whaley of Farmington, Connecticut, who is a young star with a bright future.Kelly fired rounds of 77, 82, and 77 to finish with a tournament total of 236.Kelly also claimed the low final round belt buckle after her final round score of 77.Rounding out the top three is Jessie Merrill of Reston, Virginia.Jessie played very solid golf the entire tournament with rounds of 78, 79, and 80 for a final score of 237.

Izzy Galantino displayed great touch around the greens while posting 3 birdies during her final round to seal the victory. After a second place finish at the IJGT at Seaview Dolce Resort in the spring, Izzy was thrilled to finally capture her first victory.

Next weekend, the IJGT will travel to Blue Heron Pines in Cologne, New Jersey for a two day tournament starting on September 11. The top five finishers in the Boys 15-19 Division and the top three finishers in the Girls and Boys 14 & Under Divisions also receive an invitation to the IJGT Major Series of events, the first of which takes place at Penn Oaks Golf Club October 30-31.
