The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) will host the Aiken Junior Open Sept. 21-22 at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, SC. The two-day, 36-hole event will be held at the Wisteria Course, one of the four fantastic courses available at Woodside Plantation.
Opened in 1987 and designed by famous golf course architect Rees Jones, Wisteria boasts 18 challenging holes that were designed to showcase the rolling hills and wooded forests of the area.
The picturesque setting will play host to fierce competition, especially in the Boys 15-19 Division. Headlining that division is Ben El Cohn of Guayaquil, Ecuador, who is moving up a division after winning the Boys 14 & Under Division title at the IJGT Junior at Hilton Head National. Challenging him will be a pair of Italians, Luigi D’Amico (Forli, Italy) and Maurizio Debono (Basiguo, Italy).
D’Amico has a fourth-place and third-place finish in two IJGT Events this season, while Debono has notched fifth and sixth-place finishes in his two tour appearances this year.
In the Girls Division, all eyes will be on Kelly Whaley of Farmington, CT, who will be making her first tour appearance of the season. Whaley had one win, four second-place finishes and three top-tens in nine tour Events last season.
The Boys 14 & Under Division will likely be a battle between Takafumi Shimoji (Okinawa, Japan) and Karl Vilips (Melbourne, Australia). Shimoji boasts a win and a tied for second-place in his two appearances this season, while Vilips has a a win, a tied for second and a fourth-place finish to his name so far this year.
