This weekend was another great turnout for International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) alumni, who continue to display their extraordinary talents at the collegiate level.

In The Challenge at Onion Creek held from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and hosted by Texas State University, IJGT alum and current Texas Tech sophomore, Yang Yue (Kimmy) Hill, landed a second place finish with a final 2-over-par 212. At the three-round event, Hill helped guide her team to a win, alongside teammate and individual champion, Elin Arvidsson. After a first round 72 (+2) and second round 73 (+3), Hill came out in the final round with a vengeance, managing a career-best 3-under-par 67 for the round, including five impressive birdies. While playing with the IJGT, Hill racked up two Top-10 finishes during the 2010-2011 season, including a spectacular tied for third finish at the coveted Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions in May 2011. The Palm Desert, Calif., native continues to impress, and can next be seen with her Texas Tech team at The Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. on Oct. 5, 2013.

At the Graeme McDowell ShoalCreek Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, IJGT was proudly represented by two alumni, Blake Morris and Gonzalo Rubio.
Morris, a current junior at Ole Miss, dominated the field of 60 golfers from 12 universities, grabbing a tied for first place individual win and leading his Mississippi team to a third place finish. His three-round, 8-under-par 208 effort included a 4-under-par 68 in Round 1 and a 5-under-par 67 in Round 2. The individual win marked the first for the Ole Miss Men’s Golf program since 2010, and gave Morris his fifth Top-5 finish in his collegiate career.
Reflecting on his performance, Ole Miss head coach, Ernest Ross explains, “We are all really proud of [Blake] and his win. It was a tough battle, and he had to make an eight-footer on 18 to be declared the co-champion.”
The Waterbury, Conn., native and IJGT veteran played in more than 20 tour events over seven seasons before moving up to the collegiate level. Next up for Morris and the Rebels will be the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic on Oct. 14-15 in Atlanta, Ga.
Rubio, from Garza Garcia, Mexico, represented the North Texas Men’s Golf Team and landed a tied for sixth place finish with a career-best 4-under-par 212 performance. His even-par 72 in Round 1 was followed up by two back-to-back, 2-under-par 70’s, where Rubio sunk four birdies in each of the final two rounds. This was the first Top-10 outcome for the sophomore, who helped his team grab an eighth place finish in their third event of the season.
Rubio’s two seasons with the IJGT included a notable fourth place finish in May 2011 and a win in May 2012, both coming in the tour’s annual event at the Falcon’s Fire Golf Club in Kissimmee, Fla. Rubio and North Texas will compete in the upcoming Jim River Intercollegiate in Ruston, La. on Oct. 21-22.
The Cardinal Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Louisville on Sept. 23-24 in Simpsonville, Ky., featured another IJGT alum in Caleb Wolters. The University of Dayton freshman notched a 1-under-par 215 through three rounds, including three birdies and even-par on 12 holes in the final round to score a 73. His performance was good for a 7th place finish, and Wolters, who led his team in his first collegiate event, helped the Dayton Flyers land 11th overall.
Wolters’ most notable event with the IJGT came at the Arizona Junior presented by AB Golf Designs in April 2012, where he finished in second place. Wolters and the Flyers are back in action Oct. 7-8 at the UC Bearcat Invitational.
