To kick off the IJGT Northeast Tour, the IJGT will travel north to host the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill Golf Course in Lorton, Va., on March 14-15, 2015.
This exciting event will take place on one of Northern Virginia’s newest premier courses, Laurel Hill Golf Course. The 18-hole municipal course was designed by Bill Love following traditional ideals where the natural beauty of the area is allowed to dictate the course’s character.
Opened in 2005, Laurel Hill Golf Course has joined the likes of Torrey Pines as one of the premier municipal courses in the nation. With wide-open, windswept greens difficult more due to length than trees or water hazards, this course boasts six sets of tees. Complete with a driving range with grass and mat stations and target greens as well as a short-game practice area, the visually stunning course measures over 7,000 yards with a par of 71.
The course was ranked multiple times (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014) in Golfweek’s Best of List for Municipal Courses. In 2013 the USGA chose the course as its host for the 2013 Amateur Public Links Championship. Juniors will be competing for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings.
In the Boys 15-19 Division, David Ross of Lorton, Va., will look to add a second win to his IJGT resume at Laurel Hill. Ross’ first win came at the IJGT Junior at Hershey Links in 2013. Since, Ross has notched two top-10 finishes, one at the College Series at Penn State University and the Major Championship at Outdoor Country Club.
