SOMERS POINT, NJ – The IJGT returned to Somers Point, N.J., for the Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay Country Club. With beautiful weather all weekend, the conditions were ideal for scoring. Greate Bay serves as a fan-favorite stop on the tour. This weeks Players of the Week are Joshua Goldenberg, of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Haley Bookholdt, of Columbus, N.J.
Goldenberg, playing in his second event of the season, had a great two days of golf. In round one, Goldenberg had a steady round, shooting an 80 and never scoring higher than bogey on any hole. His second round was considerably better as he carded a 73. The New York native showed determination by shooting a 37 on the front nine. That score included a birdie on the long par-5 sixth hole. His back nine was virtually flawless with eight pars in nine holes. We congratulate Joshua on his great play and hope to see him soon!
Bookholdt, also playing in just her second event of the season, had a very strong outing this weekend, especially during the final round. She finished her first round with a score of 86, which included two birdies on No. 15 and No. 17. Though she entered the final round in a tie for fifth place, she was just six strokes off the lead and still in contention. Bookholdt came prepared in the final round and put together an exceptional score of 37 on her first nine holes. She, again, birdied the par-5, No. 15, which was statistically the most difficult hole in the Girls Division. She was also carded birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 during the weekend, the only two birdies on those holes in the division. She finished the final round with a score of 79, for a tournament total of 165. Her 79 won her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award and her 165 earned her a tie for second place. Bookholdt will look to continue her success next week at the Bridgestone Tournament of Champions.
