The IJGT hosted both northeast and southeast events on October 11-12, 2014, for juniors from all over the world. The Northeast Tour headed to Bronx, N.Y., for the first time in IJGT history. Held at Pelham Bay Golf Course, the tour hosted the IJGT Junior Open. Rain crept into the forecast briefly and despite the conditions remaining cool and windy, juniors competed with intensity for IJGT merit points and national rankings. This week’s IJGT Photo of the Week for the north features IJGT Junior Open Girls Champion Madison Braman of Loudonville, N.Y.
Braman opened the tournament with a first-round score of 1-over 72, her best round of the weekend. She kicked off with back-to-back birdies before adding a third to finish nine strokes ahead of the division. Despite some struggle against the windy conditions in round two, Braman aimed for consistency, adding 10 pars. Her second-round score of 80 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award going to the junior with the lowest score in the final round.
In the southeast, the IJGT headed to the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to host the Florida Junior. With weather resembling summer conditions, juniors competed for IJGT merit points and national rankings as well as an invite to the North American Junior Amateur Championship to be held in Arizona on December 30-January 3, 2015. This week’s IJGT Photo of the Week for the southeast features junior, Conor Byrne of Dublin, Ireland. Bryne is in his first season as an IJGT member and has been a part of three events now. Most recently, Bryne took home the second-place trophy at the IJGT Lowcountry Open at Oldfield GC. He combined consistent rounds of 72 for a tournament total of even-par 144.
Congratulations to both Braman and Byrne and we look forward to seeing them again in IJGT events!
