Capitol Challenge at Westfields Golf Club – Round One Recap

The Northeast tour kicked off today with round one of the Capitol Challenge at Westfields Golf Club. The weather was sunny and reached a high of 66 degrees. The ideal golf conditions allowed many junior golfers to play some great golf.  IJGT Merit Points and national rankings were at stake, as well as an invite to IJGT’s Bridgestone Tournament of Champions to be played at Grand Cypress Resort on May 24-26, 2014. The numbers for the division leaders are as follows.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, West Shaw of Alexandria, Va., is leading after round one. Here are his round one numbers:

9 – strokes over par

8 – number of pars made

3 – third IJGT Event this season

2 – stroke lead in the division

1 – number of birdies made during round one

 

In the Boys 15-19 Division, there is a two-way tie between Michael Jones of Potomac, Md., and William Thomson of Pittsford, N.Y. Here are Jones’ round one numbers:

73 – final score after round one

9 – total pars on the day

4 – number of birdies on the day

1 – over-par on both front and back nine

 

Here are Thomson’s number after round one:

6 – sixth IJGT Event this season

3 – birdies on the day

3 – number of birdies on the back nine

1 – number of strokes under-par on the back nine
