Players to watch at the Capital Challenge at Westfields

The IJGT will kick off the 2014 North East tour in Clifton, Va. with the #CapitalChallenge on March 15-16, 2014 at Westfields Golf Club. Golfers will play 36-holes over two days and compete for IJGT Merit Points and National Rankings.

Westfields is Virginia’s only signature course designed by Fred Couples. The course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary making it a one-of-a-kind golfing experience that protects both the environment and the heritage of the game. In the Boys 15-19 Division, Sasha Lobel of Pittsburgh, PA will be a player to watch. Lobel is coming off a second place finish at the Major Championship at Presidio Golf Club. He hopes to continue his momentum in his second IJGT Event this season. Luke Schaap of Potomac, MD will be looking to make a statement and win his first IJGT Event at the Capital Challenge. Schaap has finished within the top five for every event he has entered. In the 2012-2013 season, he recorded five second place finishes. Rounding out our players to watch in the 15-19 Division, Evan Katz of Washington, DC will make his return to Westfields Golf Club. In the 2013 Event at Westfields, Katz finished round one with a 20-over-par score of 91. During the final round, Katz carded five birdies and finished with score of 3-under-par 68. Katz’ 68 was the low final round score, and forced a playoff. Katz ended up taking second place and looks to compete for first again this year.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, the field has a couple of notable competitors. Thomas Lipowicz of Alexandria, VA is coming off a seventh place finish in the Major Championship at Kiawah Island and a fourth place finish in the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC SawgrassAnother player to watch, is Brett Levenstein of Olney, MD. Levenstein finished within the top 10 at Westfields last season and will hope to do so again. Will Klein of Bethesda, MD  will also be fighting for first place. Most recently, Klein finished in fourth place in the IJGA Invitational held at Sea Pines on the famous  Harbour Town course.
