IJGT Alumni have finished the month of October strong, with 26 top 10 finishes during the last week and a half. Here are our IJGT alumni top-10 finishers for the end of October!

IJGT alumni shine in collegiate play

Throughout the month of September and thus far in October, IJGT alumni have been successful in their college golf tournaments. Here are some top-alumni finishers for the month of September and the first two weeks of October in their respective tournaments. In total there were 96 top-10 finishes and 11 tournament champions!

IJGT alumna, Annie Park, wins third Symetra Tour title

IJGT alumna, Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y., won the Symetra Tour’s Prairie Band Casino & Resort Charity Classic on Sept. 13, 2015 in Mayetta, Kan., at the Firekeeper Golf Course. This was Park’s third victory on the Symetra Tour this year, which automatically qualifies her for a 2016 LPGA Card.

“It has been a lifelong dream of mine to play on the LPGA since I started golf when I was eight years old,” said Park. “I looked up to Annika Sorenstam and I knew I wanted to be like her when I grew up. I’m speechless and I can’t wait to play on the LPGA next year.”

Park earned the victory in comeback fashion after the starting the final round in a tie for fifth place. She fired a 7-under, 65 in the final round to claim a three-stroke victory and finish the tournament at 13-under, 203. She got off to a blazing start with a 31 on her opening nine to take the outright lead, which she would not relinquish. Park  is only the tenth player in Symetra Tour history to win three times in a given season.

In her junior days, Park played many IJGT events across the country winning three tournaments in 2006. She won at Duke University Golf Club, Crystal Springs Resort, and Architects Golf Club.

IJGT alumnus, Rickie Fowler, wins Deutsche Bank Championship

IJGT alumnus, Rickie Fowler of Murrieta, Calif., won the PGA Tour’s Deutsche Bank Championship with a score of 15-under, 269. The Deutsche Bank Championship is the second leg of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, which crowns the season long champion on the PGA Tour. Fowler earned the title in comeback fashion after jumping ahead of 54-hole leader Henrik Stenson with a final-round score of 3-under, 68. Fowler, who has made a reputation of being clutch in the most important moments, was able to close with a 2-under 33 on his back nine to earn his third PGA Tour victory, and his second of the 2014-2015 season.

Fowler moved into third place in the FedEx Cup Standings with his win and will look to end the year on top and collect the $10 million first prize. In addition, Fowler moved to No. 5 in the Official World Golf Rankings after the victory at TPC Boston.

In Fowler’s junior days he excelled on the course as well. He won six IJGT tournaments from 2003-2006 and collected many other junior titles before moving on to play college golf at powerhouse Oklahoma State University.

IJGT alumnus, Derek Bard, finishes runner-up at U.S. Amateur

Derek Bard of New Hartford, N.Y., a former IJGT player, shined at Olympia Fields Country Club in the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Playing in one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in world in a field of 312 players, Bard was able to put himself in elite company and finished runner-up in the national amateur championship conducted by the United States Golf Association.

After 36 holes of stroke play, the field was cut to 64 players for the match play portion of the competition. Bard drew Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Miss., in the first round and won the match 4 & 3. In the Round of 32, Bard played Sepp Straka of Valdosta, Ga., and won the match 6 & 5. During the Round of 16, Bard played with U.S. Walker Cup team member, Hunter Stewart of Lexington, Ky., winning a tough match 2 up.

The University of Virginia Cavalier junior had his quarterfinal match against Jon Rahm of Spain, who led 3-up after the first ten holes, but Bard was able to complete the comeback and win the match 1 up advancing to the semifinals. To make it into the final round, Bard was victorious 3 up over Kenta Konishi of Japan.

Heading into the finals match of the U.S Amateur, Bard went head-to-head against Southern Methodist University senior Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau, the 2015 NCAA Champion, defeated Derek Bard 7 & 6 in the 36-hole final.  With their performances, DeChambeau and Bard earned spots in the 2016 Masters and U.S. Open.

Derek Bard was a star when playing on the International Junior Golf Tour. Bard carded six top-five finishes and won three tournaments in his three seasons with the tour. His titles include: 2009 Hank Haney Invitational at Sea Pines Resort, 2009 at Gillette Ridge, and 2010 at Bulle Rock.

The national tournament conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA) begins on Monday, August 17, 2015 with a field of 312 players from across the world competing for the most prestigious amateur title in men’s golf. IJGT alumnus, Martin Piller wins Web.com Tour’s Digital Ally Open

IJGT alumnus, Martin Piller of Dallas, Texas, collected his second title of the year on the Web.com Tour after winning the Digital Ally Open on August 9, 2015 in Overland Park, Kan. He finished the tournament at 26-under and earned a four-stroke victory, his second Web.com Tour victory in three starts. Piller had the 54-hole lead going into the final round where he carded a bogey-free 5-under 66 to claim the victory. With the title, Piller moved into second position on the Web.com Tour’s Money List, where the Top 25 finishers will automatically earn their PGA Tour for the 2015-2016 season.

On the IJGT, Martin Piller won the IJGT at ChampionsGate in October of 2002 with scores of 70-72-69.

Other IJGT alumni with notable finishes were Sebastian Vazquez of Mexico City, Mexico, and Michael Kim of Del Mar, Calif., who finished in a tie for third place with scores of 20-under, 264. Vazquez was a Monday qualifier at the Digital Ally Open.

IJGT members set to compete in USGA Junior Championships

On Monday, July 20,2015, the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior will commence with many IJGT members from across the country competing in the nation’s premier junior golf event conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). The 68th U.S. Junior Amateur will be contested in the hometown of the IJGT, Bluffton, S.C., at Colleton River Plantation. Here are a list of IJGT members competing in the boys national championship.

Weekend Update – IJGT ELITE

IJGT alumni from all across the country played well the last week in the professional tours, as well as some top -level amateur events. In the professional ranks on the LPGA, Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla., finished in a tie for fifth place at the inaugural KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Pressel has moved up to 20th in the Rolex Rankings and has recorded four top-10 finishes on the LPGA this season. Another IJGT alumna, Shanshan Feng of Guangzhou, China, also finished in a tie for 13th place.

On the Web.com Tour, two IJGT alumni finished in the top 10 with Michael Kim finishing in a tie for third place, and Jamie Lovemark finishing in a tie for eighth place at the Rust-Oleum Championship in Westlake, Ohio. This was Kim’s best finish on the Web.com Tour this season, and Lovemark’s third top-10 finish of the season. Both players are currently inside the top 25 on the Web.com Tour’s Money List, which is significant because the top 25 earn their PGA Tour cards for the 2015-2016 season.

In the rain-shortened, Symetra Tour Decatur-Forsyth Classic, IJGT alumni Maude-Aimee Leblanc  of Sherbooke, Quebec, and Shannon Fish of Houston, Texas, finished inside the top 10 recording second place and fourth place finishes respectively.

Ben Schlottman of Advance, N.C., won the 2015 Palmetto Amateur with an 8-under 272. Held at the prestigious Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C., the Palmetto Amateur featured some of the strongest amateurs in the country. Schlottman took the second-round lead, after a 6-under 64, but after a 73 in the third round, he would have to come from behind. Schlottman did just that closing with a 4-under 66 including a 3-under 33 back-nine score to secure the victory for the rising sophomore at Auburn University.

Dylan Healey of Franklin, Tenn., won the Southwestern Amateur in Scottsdale, Ariz. Healey, who recently completed his junior season at Cal State-San Marcos (NAIA), birdied his last three holes of regulation to shoot a closing 4-under 275 at Desert Mountain Club.
