Many IJGT alumni have been making news in the professional ranks this summer, but none as much as Rickie Fowler of Murrieta, Calif. Fowler has put together a solid year claiming victory at The PLAYERS Championship at famed TPC Sawgrass. He added another title to his resume with his victory at the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. The European Tour event, routinely hosts some of the best players in the world, with many of them using the tournament as a warm-up for the British Open.
Fowler finished the tournament at 12-under finishing one stroke ahead of fellow countryman Matt Kuchar and France’s Jacquelin Raphael. Fowler won with a late spurt down the stretch making three birdies in his last four holes, which was eerily similar to his victory at The PLAYERS Championship. The final birdie came on the last hole, where Fowler took an aggressive line and ripped his driver down the middle of the fairway. It left him a shorter approach shot that he stuck to within two feet of the hole. The birdie on No. 18 jumped him ahead of Kuchar and Raphael giving him his first official European Tour victory. This also moved Fowler to fifth in the Official World Golf Rankings.
In Fowler’s junior days he excelled on the course as well. He won six IJGT tournaments from 2003-2006 and collected many other junior titles before moving on to play college golf at powerhouse Oklahoma State University.
