HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) conducted the IJGT Junior at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, La., on Dec. 21-22, 2013. This was the first tournament the IJGT has ever hosted in the state of Louisiana, and it could not have occurred at a better venue. TPC Louisiana has hosted the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic for eight years and is one of the best tests of golf the state has to offer. This week’s Player of the Week honors went to Nolan Lambert of Gretna, La., and Angelica Harris of Harvey, La.
The weather played a prominent role in the tournament as high winds of 25+mph ruled the first 18 holes. On the final round of the Event, rain and thunderstorms forced the competition to be shortened to just nine holes.
Lambert displayed the best all-around game over the weekend as he went to post a tournament-low score of 120 over the 27 holes and win the Boys 14 & Under Division. Lambert’s first round got off to a shaky start, but he was able to bounce back after a 45 and record an even-par 36 on the back-nine to finish with an 81. During the final round, the weather again was not cooperative with the players, but Lambert found a way to post a solid 39 to secure his victory. This was Lambert’s first IJGT Event.
In the Girls Division, Harris lead from start to finish and never looked back. Coming in as the favorite to win the tournament she built a 12-stroke lead after the first round. Things got off to a slow start, but Harris finished strong playing her last seven holes in 1-over-par including two birdies. She was up to the challenge in the final round as well even with the terrible weather. Harris avoided any large numbers on her card to take home her first IJGT title. She had played in two previous tournaments finishing third place in 2012 at Callaway Gardens.
