AJGA Performance Stars in IJGT Events – NEW 2014

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) provides International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) members opportunities to earn AJGA Performance Based stars. Accumulating these stars is important in earning entry into AJGA tournaments. There will be some NEW changes for IJGT members effective Jan. 1, 2014. These changes will go in effect for all other junior golf tours and associations as well.

All tournaments other than the IJGT Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions will have provisional status for AJGA Performance Stars. What that means is the following requirements will need to be met in order to earn AJGA Performance Stars in these tournaments. For those of your familiar with the AJGA Performance Based Entry system in regards to IJGT Events this first part has not really changed. The NEW changes are highlighted in bold below.

AJGA Performance Based Entry status for top finishers is available if the field size reaches 40 players in the Boys 15-19 Division, 12 players in the Girls Division, and 20 players in the Boys 14 & Under Division. The following will be awarded if the specific division meets the aforementioned requirement.

Boys 15-19 Champion = 4 Performance Stars

Top 5 in Boys 15-19 Div. = 1 Performance Star

Girls Division Champion = 4 Performance Stars

Boys 14 & Under Champion = 1 Performance Star

Additionally, if a tournament field has at least 55 players in the Boys 15-19 Division or 18 players in the Girls Division, the AJGA will recognize the top 10% of the specific division with 1 AJGA Performance Star. For example if the field reaches 60 players in the Boys 15-19 Division in addition to what is listed above, 6th place will be awarded 1 AJGA Performance Star.

As you can see, the new changes will be beneficial to our members as more IJGT stars will be given out at our events! Many of our events from last Spring would have given out more AJGA Performance Stars under the new system, so do not miss your chance to get signed up this year for those marquee events including Colleton River, Kiawah Island, White Manor CC, Duke Golf Club, Architects Golf Club, and Hershey CC.

AJGA Performance Stars in IJGT Events

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The process of earning a college scholarship is one that requires a lot of preparation. Playing in International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Events can assist greatly in this process. Our results are sent out to college coaches across the country and being able to play in Fall and Spring conditions is something that college coaches want to see, as their own seasons are during these time frames. Playing a round in non-ideal conditions is much more difficult than playing a tournament in perfect weather during the summer.

College coaches also like to see a strong tournament schedule. The ability to play in elite level events like the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) can give a prospective student-athlete an advantage in the recruiting process. Getting access to the AJGA tournaments is not an easy process, as a junior golfer must qualify for the majority of their events through their Performance Based Entry system. The IJGT has many events where AJGA Performance Stars are available to top finishers.

There is some confusion as to which IJGT Events will earn these performance stars and which will not. We want to make it simple and transparent for all of our members. You can find a tournament’s AJGA status by clicking on the individual Tournament Information Page. Here is an example below.

AJGA PBE Print Screen Page 1 Larger

Select the event you are going to play. If you go to the “What’s at Stake?” section and click on the AJGA Performance Based Entry link it will direct you to the screen below.

AJGA PBE Print Screen Page 2

Notice there is a distinction between the two underlined sections in this example. The first part announces which divisions have been pre-awarded by the AJGA. These AJGA Performance Stars will be available regardless of the number of competitors in the field. The second part identifies that there will be AJGA Performance Stars at stake IF a certain field size is reached.

If the specific division meets the required number of players it will earn AJGA Performance Stars. This is not official until the end of the tournament. In the example above the Boys 15-19 and Girls Divisions will have guaranteed AJGA Performance Stars while the Boys 14 & Under Division is contingent on having 20 or more players in the division.

If you have any questions about AJGA Performance Stars please contact the AJGA Player Services Department at 770-868-4200.

IJGT announces the Fall 2013 Discovery Tour schedule

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) is thrilled to announce its Fall 2013 Discovery Tour schedule. The tour invites kids ages 8-12 to gain tournament experience as well as improve their golf game, while above all having fun. With four Discovery Tour events scheduled we are expecting to have the highest turnout to date. The Discovery Tour is a laid back alternative to the IJGT, and is designed to give kids the chance to play with golfers  of similar age and skill level.

The Northeast Tour will consist of two spectacular golf courses. The first stop is the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Cologne, N.J. This course was given four stars by Golf Digest and continues to exceed expectations by being recognized as the best 18-hole golf course on the Jersey Shore. With a notoriously difficult 15th hole the kids of the Discovery Tour are sure to find the course an exciting challenge that will help them hone their golf skills.

The second stop on the Northeast tour will be at an IJGT favorite, the Hershey Links Golf Club in Hershey, Pa. The golf course is a par-72 that stretches 175 acres and features links-style golf with tall fescue grasses and bentgrass greens. This will be the last season the Hershey Links course will be open and we are thrilled to have one last chance to play it.

Our Southeast leg of the tour will be featuring two of Hilton Head Island’s best golf courses. The first will be held at Palmetto Hall on the Arthur Hills golf course, which opened in 1991 and was instantly rated as one of America’s top 10 New Courses. Their signature par-4 18th hole offers a variety of obstacles that are sure to keep any golfer on their toes. The tour will also be headed to Hilton Head National, which is considered the “best of the best” by the locals of Hilton Head Island.

At the end of the 2013-2014 Discovery Tour season the junior golfer that earns the most points in each division will earn a free week of summer golf camp at the International Junior Golf Academy.

September 7th – Hilton Head National

October 12th – Blue Heron Pines

October 26th – Hershey Links

November 2nd – Palmetto Hall – Hills Course

The Discovery Tour will be a great experience as long as do not forget Rule #1.

Rule #1 = Have fun!
