Andersen, Groenhuysen earn Player of the Week honors

The IJGT traveled to Avondale, Pa., to host The Summer Series at Hartefeld National on July 28-29, 2015 at Hartefeld National. Juniors competed in sunny conditions for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Following the tournament, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Marc Groenhuysen of West Chester, Pa., and Kelli Andersen of Staten Island, N.Y.

Groenhuysen made a comeback from his first round of 86, to improving his score by 13 strokes by carding a 1-over 73 for his final round.  He did this by making an early birdie on hole No. 2 and then back-to-back birdies at holes Nos. 7 and 8.  Making the turn at 2-under, Groenhuysen battled the back and had a par streak from hole Nos. 13-17.  This great round moved him up in the ranks to ninth place with a two-day total of 159 for the Boys 15-19 Division.

Andersen came into the final round in second place.  With only a four stroke cushion she needed to hold off the girls behind her.  She battled throughout the day and carded a 97 to finish her round.  Andersen held off her competitors, securing second place by three strokes.  Andersen had a two day total of 189 for the Girls Division.

Harrington, Fritzinger earn IJGT Player of the Week honors

The IJGT traveled to Bedminster, N.J., to host the Summer Series at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club on July 21-22, 2015. Juniors competed in sunny conditions for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, and AJGA Performance Stars during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Following the tournament, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Noah Harrington of Ambler, Pa., and Samantha Fritzinger of Allentown, Pa.

Harrington bounced back from his first round of 78, carding an even-par 71 for his second round.  This improved his score by seven strokes from the previous day.  He shot a 4-under 31 on the front nine including birdies on holes Nos. 5-7 and an eagle on the par-5, hole No. 8.  Harrington then concluded his round by making pars on holes Nos. 16-18.  He finished the tournament in a tie for fifth place with a two-day total of 149 for the Boys 15-19 Division.

Fritzinger started tied for the lead coming into the final round of the tournament.  For her second round she carded a strong front nine with a par streak on hole Nos. 6-9 to shoot a 39.  While making the turn, she continued her strong play from the front with a birdie on hole No. 10 and pars on holes Nos. 11-13.  She finished the two-day tournament in second place with a total of 155 for the Girls Division.

Del Monaco, Zogby earn IJGT Player of the Week honors (July 15, 2015)

The IJGT traveled to Stafford, N.Y., to host the Summer Series at Stafford Country Club on July 9–10, 2015. Juniors competed in wet conditions for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Following the tournament, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Ryan Zogby of New Hartford, N.Y., and Marissa Del Monaco of Little Valley, N.Y.

Zogby bounced back from his first round of 80 shooting a 2-over 74, improving his score by six strokes. He ended his second round with a birdie, birdie finish, which gave him a tie for second place in the tournament. Zogby finished the tournament with a two-day total of 154 for the Boys 15-19 Division, and also earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for his final-round 2-over 74.

In the Girls Division, Del Monaco rebounded from a first round of 84 to improving her second day score by seven strokes, shooting a 77. She had two consistent par streaks on holes Nos. 4-10 and again on 12-17. This helped Del Monaco secure her second-place finish as she carded a total of 161 for the two-day tournament.

Friend, Petrone earn IJGT Player of the Week honors (July 6, 2015)

The IJGT traveled to Ellwood, Pa., to host the Summer Series at Olde Stonewall GC at Olde Stonewall Golf Club on June 30-July 1, 2015. Juniors competed in wet conditions for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, and AJGA Performance Stars during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Following the tournament, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Andrew Friend and Bella Petrone both of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Friend bounced back from his first round of 83 to shooting a 5-over 75, improving his score by eight strokes.  He carded only pars and bogeys during his steady final round.  Friend had a great par streak as he came made the turn to his second nine making par on holes Nos. 8-12 to keep his round going.  By doing this he earned a three-way tie for sixth place.  He finished the tournament with a two-day total of 158 for the Boys 15-19 Division, even in the wet conditions.

In the Girls Division, Petrone rebounded from a first round of 92 to improving her second day score by 9 strokes, shooting an 83.  Pounding the ball far down the fairway, she was able have a fantastic par streak as she made par on holes Nos. 6-10.  This helped Petrone secure her second-place finish as she carded a total of 175 for the two-day tournament.

Gillam, McCann earn IJGT Player of the Week honors (May 27, 2015)

The IJGT traveled to Orlando, Fla., to host the Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions at Grand Cypress Golf Club on May 23-25, 2015. Juniors competed in warm and sunny conditions for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and exemptions into the Players Amateur, Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational, International Junior Masters, North American Junior Amateur, South Carolina Junior Golf Association Beth Daniel Junior Azalea and South Atlantic Women’s Amateur Championship during the three-day, 54-hole event.

Following the tournament, the IJGT is pleased to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Parker Gillam of Cary, N.C., and Holly McCann of Raleigh, N.C.

Gillam rebounded from an 81 in the first round on the East/North Course to shoot a 2-under 70 in round two on the New Course before firing a 3-under 69 in the final round on the East/North Course. He landed in a three-way tie for the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of an event. Gillam made par or better on holes No. 3 through 15 in the final round and carded a double-eagle, his first, on the par-5 ninth hole. He finished the tournament with a 220 three-day total, good for fourth in the Boys 15-19 Division.

Holly McCann

After shooting 82s in the first and second rounds on the New and East/North courses, respectively, McCann fired a 3-over 75 in the final round on the New Course. Her 239 tournament total landed her in third place in the Girls Division.

The IJGT Northeast Tour traveled to College Park, Md., to host the College Series at the University of Maryland on May 16-17, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT Northeast Tour is pleased to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Keegan Shreves of Potomac, Md., and Skylar Sload of Ashburn, Va.

Shreves recovered from a round one 81 to shoot a 1-over 72 in round two. His 153 tournament total landed him in a tie for ninth place in the Boys 15-19 Division. He made par or better on the entire front nine in round two, including birdies on the par-4 second and par-5 ninth holes.

Skylar Sload edited

Sload knocked eight strokes off her round one 90 to card an 82 in round two. Her 172 two-day total was good for third place in the Girls Division. She carded two birdies during the tournament on the par-4 17th hole in round one and the par-4 sixth hole in round two.

Southeast Tour

The IJGT Southeast Tour remained in Hilton Head Island, S.C., to host the Junior World Qualifier at Golden Bear on May 2-3, 2015. Juniors competed in picture-perfect, warm and sunny conditions for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings and exemptions into the North American Junior Amateur and IMG Academy Junior World Championships during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT Southeast Tour is proud to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Betty Horaney of Longview, Texas, and Feng Chen of Beijing, China.

Horaney carded her first career hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole during the second round of the Junior World Qualifier. She was the only junior in the Girls Division to card an eagle. She knocked 12 strokes off her round one 96 to record an 84 in the second round, good for a 180 two-day total.

Chen shaved nine strokes off his first-round 84 to card a 3-over 75 in the second round and a 159 tournament total. He began the second round on the 10th hole and started out strong, making par on his first seven holes. His two birdies came on the par-4 first and par-5 ninth holes in the second round.

Northeast Tour

The IJGT Northeast Tour traveled to Mendon, N.Y., to host the St. John Golf & Fitness Open at Mendon Golf Club on May 2-3, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings and exemptions into the North American Junior Amateur and International Junior Masters during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT Northeast Tour is pleased to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Matt Dreimiller and Brynn Lohr.

Dreimiller shaved four strokes off his round one 78 to card a 3-over 74 in round two, good for a 152 tournament total. He finished the tournament in a three-way tie for second place. His six birdies were tied for a division-high. Dreimiller was most successful on the par-5 sixth hole, which he birdied in both rounds. He carded an even-par 35 on the front nine in the second round.

Brynn Lohr edited

Lohr knocked 19 strokes off her round one 128 to card a 109 in the second round. Her biggest improvement came on the front nine; she shaved 12 strokes off her front nine score between the first and second rounds. She finished with a 237 tournament total, good for eighth place in the Girls Division.

Southeast Tour

The IJGT Southeast Tour remained in Hilton Head Island, S.C., to host the IJGT Island Open at Palmetto Hall on April 25-26, 2015. Round one was suspended due to unsafe playing conditions and was completed on Sunday before round two. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT Southeast Tour is proud to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Siyan Chen of Hanzhou City, China, and Nate Tosto of Pooler, Ga.

Chen knocked 22 strokes off her round one 101 to card a 79 in round two. She finished the second round by making par or better on the final five holes, including birdies on the par-3 16th and par-4 18th holes. Her second round 79 was the 13-year-old’s best score in an IJGT event.

Tosto shaved nine strokes off his round one 85 to shoot a 4-over 76 in round two. Beginning with a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole, Tosto made par or better on holes No. 7 through 16 in the second round. He closed out the tournament with a 1-over 37 on the back nine in round two.

Northeast Tour

The IJGT Northeast Tour traveled to Havre de Grace, Md., to host the Major Championship at Bulle Rock on April 25-26, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT Northeast Tour is pleased to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Jairus Gaines of Baltimore, Md., and Sirena Walsh of Chantilly, Va.

Gaines shot a 77 in round one followed by a 79 in round two to finish with a 156 tournament total, good for third in the Boys 15-19 Division. He carded four birdies during the event, including two on the final four holes in round two. He recorded 1-over 37s on the back nine in both rounds.

Walsh knocked six strokes off her round one 82 to card a 4-over 76 in round two. She earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round award, the award presented to the male and female juniors to card the lowest scores in the final round of an event. She birdied three holes in round two: the par-5 second hole, the par-4 sixth hole and the par-3 seventh hole. She finished second in the Girls Division, her highest finish on the IJGT.

The IJGT Northeast Tour traveled to Lopatcong, N.J., to host The Architects Cup on April 18-19, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Anina Ku of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Brian Zinman of Center Valley, Pa.

Ku shaved six strokes off her round one 6-over 77 to card an even-par 71 in round two. Her 148 tournament total was good for third place in the Girls Division. She had a 16-hole par-or-better streak, which came on holes No. 2 through 17 in round two. Her second-round 71 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round award, which she shared with St. Davids, Pa., native and second-place finisher Brynn Walker. Two of Ku’s four birdies came on par-5s, leading to a 4.9 average on par-5s. This is Ku’s fourth season competing on the IJGT. She won the only other IJGT event she’s competed in this season, the Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay Country Club, earlier this month.

Zinman carded a 78 in round one and a 79 in round two to finish with a 157 tournament total. He birdied the par-5 first hole in both rounds. Competing in his first IJGT event, Zinman tied for 26th place in the Boys 15-19 Division.

Irei, Langs among those to earn IJGT Player of the Week honors – April 14, 2015

Southeast Tour

The IJGT Southeast Tour traveled to Okatie, S.C., to host the IJGT Oldfield Junior at the Oldfield Club on April 11-12, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the Southeast Tour is proud to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Kanata Irei of Okinawa-shi, Japan, and Meredith Langs of Hilton Head Island, S.C.

After carding a 5-over 77 in round one, Irei bounced back to record a 1-under 71 in round two. Irei used four birdies to finish under par in the second round. He earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of an event.

Irei found particular success on the four par-5s. He birdied the par-5 fourth, eighth and 11th holes in both rounds and made par on the par-5 18th in both rounds. After knocking six strokes off his round one score, Irei finished with a 148 tournament total to tie for fourth place in the Boys 15-19 Division of the IJGT Oldfield Junior.

Langs shaved an impressive eight strokes off her round one 83 to card a 4-over 75 in round two. She finished with a 158 tournament total, good for sixth place in the Girls Division. Langs made par or better on seven holes to finish with a 1-over 37 on the back nine in round two.

Northeast Tour

The IJGT Northeast Tour traveled to Farmington, Pa., to host the Pennsylvania Open at Nemacolin on April 11-12, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the Northeast Tour is pleased to award IJGT Player of the Week honors to Richard Riva of Lancaster, Pa., and Brooke Hilden of Venetia, Pa.

Riva made par or better on holes No. 9 through 17 in the first round on the Links course. This nine-hole bogey-free streak was tied for the longest in the Boys 15-19 Division. Riva finished in a tie for fourth in his division with a 154 tournament total.

Hilden’s 180 tournament total earned her second place in the Girls Division.
