Marlton, NJ – The International Junior Golf Tour continued their tour in New Jersey this weekend in Marlton. Again, battling the cold this spring, the IJGT Open at the Links Golf Club had players competing for National Rankings and IJGT Merit Points. The top five players in each division earned preferred entry into any IJGT Major Championship and the Champions of each division earned an invitation to the 2016 IJGT Tournament of Champions.
The Boys 15-19 Division Champion winner, Patrick Sheehan, claimed first place with a total of 158 for the tournament. Sheehan, from Doylestown, P.A., fought the tough conditions both days and carded three birdies in two days. Between first and second place, Sheehan had a fifteen stroke lead. Deion Shepherd of Dayton, N.J., took second at the IJGT Open shooting a total of 173. Behind Shepherd was James Bagdonas, of Scotch Plains, N.J., carding a 175.
“I’m not use to hitting such low shots so many times in one round, but overall I played well. My driver, I hit it far and it was the strongest part of my game. It feels good bouncing back after White Manor. I am happy to finally pull it all together,” remarked Sheehan.
Steven Lee, of Scarsdale, N.Y., was the Boys 14 & Under Division Champ for the IJGT Open at Links GC. Battling through the weekend he carded an impressive 174.
“My wedges are my favorite clubs and they worked well for me this weekend. The course was in great shape, and the greens were really fast. The weather was my competition,” said Lee.
The Girls Division Champion carded a 173, and was awarded to Marissa Broderick of Bayonne, N.J.. Keeping her first place secured from round one, she fought through the winds to take a three shot lead over second place. Kaitlyn Lee, of Scarsdale, N.Y., came in second with a total of 176. Lee also was awarded the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. Rounding out the Girls Division was Anna Bowman, of Westfield, N.J., shooting a total of 183 for third place.
“My driver is the best part of my game. I am the most consistent with my driver, it’s what helped me get my win today,” Broderick explained.
The IJGT also recognizes the Clazic Belts Low Final Award Winners.
The IJGT will continue the Spring 2016 Season in Hilton Head Island, S.C at Palmetto Hall. The Hilton Head Open will be April 9-10, 2016.
