First-round highlights from the College Series at Colorado National

ERIE, Colo. — On a chilly October Saturday with slight winds and gray skies, the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) hosted the first round of the College Series at Colorado National Golf Club in the breathtaking town of Erie, Colorado (Oct. 12-13). The young golfers’ skills were mightily tested through long fairways and deceiving greens, where bunkers and water hazards took no mercy. Regardless, the players were able to put together an impressive first round, with two IJGT newcomers leading the way in two age divisions. Here are your leaders going into the final round, which takes place on Sunday, Oct. 13.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, William Thomson from Pittsford, N.Y., and Zachary Wagner from San Diego, Calif., are head-to-head at even-par 72 going into the final round. Here are their rounds by the numbers:

William Thomson:

72 – first round score (tied for lowest in the field)

33 – back nine score (3-under-par)

13 – number of pars

7 – consecutive pars to start the round

5 – wins on the IJGT

-1 – score on the 10 par-4’s at Colorado National Golf Club

Zachary Wagner

72 – first round score (tied for lowest in the field)

35 – back nine score (1-under-par)

14 – number of pars

6 – consecutive pars to finish the round

2 – number of birdies

-1 – score on the four par-3’s and the four par-4’s

The Boys 14 & Under Division leader through Round 1 is Jaxon Franklin of Broomfield, Colo., who is in the clubhouse at 78 (6-over-par). Here is Franklin’s round by the numbers:

Sitting atop the leaderboard for the Girls Division is Jaclyn Murray of Aurora, Colo. She carded a first round 80 (+8). Here is Murray’s round by the numbers:
