First round highlights from the IJGA Invitational

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The first round of the International Junior Golf Tour’s IJGA Invitational on Dec. 14 was plagued by constant rain, heavy enough to force a temporary delay. The first round was held at both Harbour Town Golf Links, with the Boys 15-19 Division playing there, and Sea Pines Ocean Course hosting the Boys 14 & Under and Girls Divisions. Players will switch courses for the final round of the tournament. The field consisted of 102 players representing 19 states and 18 countries. On the line at the IJGA Invitational are national rankings and Double IJGT Merit Points.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Will Miles of Hilton Head Island, S.C., leads after shooting a 3-over-par, 74. Here is Miles’s round by the numbers:

8 – There are 8 players within two strokes of Miles

3 – This is his third season with the IJGT. Also the number of birdies in his first round (16.67% of scores)

Atop the leaderboard in the Boys 14 & Under Division is Ryan McCarthy of Rockville Centre, N.Y., firing a first round score of 1-over-par, 73. Here is McCarthy’s first round by the numbers:

7 – This is McCarthy’s seventh career appearance on the IJGT, spanning three seasons

2 – Number of birdies, coming at the 4th and 14th hole.

 

Maggie Ashmore of Kingston, Ga. heads the Girls Division after carding a 4-under, 68. Here is Ashmore’s round by the numbers:

2 – This is her second year competing on the IJGT
