First-round highlights from the Island Open at Dolphin Head Golf Club

Round one of the Island Open at Dolphin Head Golf Club put junior golfers to the test as the weather was a mixture of temperatures in the 40’s and scattered rain throughout the day. Dolphin Head, a scenic and challenging course, located on Hilton Head Island,  proved to be difficult for the field of competitors. With tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m., the field of 46 golfers contested for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. The numbers for the division leaders are as follows.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Harry Jin of Palisades Park, NJ leads after round one. Here are his numbers:

4 – number of birdies on the day

4 – number of bogeys

72 – Jin’s score after round one

2 – number of strokes he leads by

4 – pars in a row to start off the back nine


Christian Clemence Tupamahu of Manado, Indonesia leads the Boys 14 & Under Division. Here are his numbers for round one:

2 – stroke lead in the Division

6 – number of IJGT events played this season

7 – number of holes he made par on for the day


In the Girls Division, there is a tie for first place between Samantha Huang and Bria’ Sanders

Huang’s round one numbers:

1 – birdie during round one

2 – first place finishes at IJGT events this season

8 – consecutive pars in a row on the back nine

Sanders‘ round one numbers:

13 – total pars during round one

1 – birdie during round one

6 – IJGT events played in this season
