Returning to the Palmetto Hall Plantation, the IJGT’s Southeast Tour hosted the IJGT Island Open on the Arthur Hills Course on November 1-2, 2014. Cold temperatures and heavy winds greeted juniors for round one, forcing the field to utilize layered clothing and winter hats to fend off the conditions. Round two offered improved conditions thanks to the sun and juniors found it easier to post low scores. Following the event, the IJGT is proud to award this week’s Player of the Week honors to Rowan Foxley of Arlington, Wash., and Sophie Guo of Bluffton, S.C.
Foxley started slowly in the first round but bounced back tremendously in round two. Through the tough conditions of round one, Foxley struggled with bogeys but went on to post seven pars on the day. Returning for round two with determination, he carded five birdies and seven pars to shave an impressive 14 strokes from his round one score. Foxley’s round-two 1-over 73 not only moved him into the top 10 but also earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the junior with the lowest score in the final round of the event.
Foxley finished eighth which becomes his first top-10 finish on the IJGT.
The conditions of round one also troubled Guo but much like Foxley, she came back strong in round two. Guo posted an even-par 72 for the second round, an impressive twenty-two stroke improvement from her round-one score. Her performance consisted of three birdies and ten pars, five of which came consecutively to finish her round. Guo’s Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award performance moved her from seventh to third, her second top-three finish of the season.
Congratulations to both Rowan Foxley and Sophie Guo on their Player of the Week honors!
