Georgia Junior at Savannah Harbor first round highlights – Kim, Vilips, Valdes lead

The IJGT headed to Savannah, Ga., for the Georgia Junior at The Club at Savannah Harbor February 21, 2014. Greeted by perfect golf weather, junior golfers got an early morning start to compete for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. The wide-open fairways were spotted with an array of birds and the occasional alligator. In review, below is each division’s leaders’ rounds, in numbers.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Geuntae Kim of Daegu, South Korea, leads following day one. His round in numbers:

10 – pars made on the round

5 – number of birdies on the round

4 – birdies that came on the front nine

2 – strokes under par-72 after 18 holes

1 – place he finished in his last tournament at the Major Championship at Kiawah Island

Karl Vilips of Melbourne, Australia, leads the Boys 14 & Under Division with these numbers:

72 – the even-par score he tallies for round one

15 – total pars on the 18-hole first round

9 – number of consecutive pars

2 – total birdies on the day

Leading the Girls Division is Ana Paula Valdes of Morelia, Mexico, her numbers below:

34 – score on the front nine, 2 strokes under par

14 – number of round-one pars

6 & 7 – holes birdied back to back

3 – birdies made

1 – first place finish in her last IJGT Tournament, a Major Championship at Kiawah Island February 15-16, 2014
