The IJGT traveled to Orlando, Fla., to host the Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions at Grand Cypress Golf Club on May 23-25, 2015. Juniors competed in warm and sunny conditions for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and exemptions into the Players Amateur, Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational, International Junior Masters, North American Junior Amateur, South Carolina Junior Golf Association Beth Daniel Junior Azalea and South Atlantic Women’s Amateur Championship during the three-day, 54-hole event.
Gillam rebounded from an 81 in the first round on the East/North Course to shoot a 2-under 70 in round two on the New Course before firing a 3-under 69 in the final round on the East/North Course. He landed in a three-way tie for the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of an event. Gillam made par or better on holes No. 3 through 15 in the final round and carded a double-eagle, his first, on the par-5 ninth hole. He finished the tournament with a 220 three-day total, good for fourth in the Boys 15-19 Division.
After shooting 82s in the first and second rounds on the New and East/North courses, respectively, McCann fired a 3-over 75 in the final round on the New Course. Her 239 tournament total landed her in third place in the Girls Division.
Congratulations to Parker Gillam and Holly McCann on their IJGT Player of the Week honors!
