IJGA Junior Open at Hershey CC – Final Results (May 10, 2015)

Jones wins three-hole playoff

Simpson wins Girls Division

The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Northeast Tour traveled to Hershey, Pa., to host the IJGA Junior Open at Hershey Country Club on May 9-10, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Michael Jones of Potomac, Md., and Quinn Dolan of Broomall, Pa., were tied for the lead in the Boys 15-19 Division with scores of 151 after 36 holes. The duo both made par on the first two playoff holes. Finally, on the third playoff hole, Jones got up-and-down from the rough to save par and win the tournament.

“I’m very excited to win,” Jones said after the tournament. “I think I played well this weekend.”

Dolan finished in second and Mark Goetz of Irwin, Pa., finished third with a 153 tournament total. Dolan’s second round even-par 71 earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of an event.

Kaleb Smith of Mansfield, Ohio, earned the EyeLine Golf Golden Putter Award, the award presented to the junior to card the most birdies in each division, with six birdies.

In the Girls Division, Charlotte Simpson of Towson, Md., walked away with the title. She shot 82 on both days to finish with a 164 tournament total.

“It was awesome to come out here for my fourth tournament and get a win,” she said after her victory. “I’m very excited.”

Audrey Clawson of Sarver, Pa., carded a 166 tournament total to finish second. East Setauket, N.Y., native Danielle Green finished one stroke behind Clawson with a 167 two-day total, good for third in the Girls Division.

Christine Shao of Green Brook, N.J., who tied for fourth, earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the girls with a second-round 79. Rebecca Markunas carded three birdies to earn the EyeLine Golf Golden Putter Award for the Girls Division.

John Updike of Wayne, Pa., earned his second consecutive victory in the Boys 14 & Under Division after winning The Architects Cup last month. His 153 tournament total gave him a three-stroke lead in his division. He carded three birdies and one eagle during the event. “The course was in great shape and it was a great weekend,” Updike said after his victory.

Jack Halleron of Timonium, Md., finished second with a 156 two-day total. Berwyn, Pa., native Billy Civitella, Jr. finished a single stroke behind Halleron carding a 157 tournament total to finish third.

Newtown Square, Pa., native Jake Calamaro, who finished in a tie for fifth, won the EyeLine Golf Golden Putter Award by carding a division-high four birdies during the tournament.

NOTES: Tom McLaughlin of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Matthew Dzialga of Greenwich, Conn., both carded holes-in-one during the tournament! McLaughlin’s came on the par-3 16th hole in round one and Dzialga’s came on the par-3 second hole in round two.
