Stephanie Meadow, IJGT alum and current University of Alabama senior, placed tied-for-second during the Dale McNamara Fall Preview at Tulsa Country Club on Sept. 9-11. Shooting an individual 71-69-66 for a final 206, Meadow finished at 4-under-par, solidifying her top-3 finish just 2 shots behind leader Kyung Kim of Southern California. In a field of 15 collegiate teams, Meadow’s fabulous performance helped her team grab a 4th-place tie.
After a shaky one-over-par performance in the first round with two bogeys and just one birdie, Meadow upped her game over the next two rounds. After the second round, she managed a one-under 69 after carding three birdies on the final six holes. Her final round proved to be the most impressive, shooting a four-under 66, helping her leap into second place with Julie Yang of Oklahoma State and Noemi Jimenez of Arizona State.

Meadow has taken the golf scene by storm thus far in her college career, racking up an outstanding resume, including being a three-time first team All-American and holding numerous school records. While a member of the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Meadow had a high rate of success, collecting many championships including the 2009 IJGT Tournament of Champions. Playing in highly competitive tournaments as a junior golfer has allowed Meadow to exceed at such a high level at the University of Alabama.
Alabama’s next event takes place on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Matt Rushton, International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA) alum, former IJGT member and current freshman at the University of Notre Dame placed tied-for-sixth in his first collegiate tournament over the weekend. At the Gopher Invitational held Sept. 8-9 in Independence, Minn., Rushton carded a final total of 3-under-par 210, four strokes back of the winner Corey Connors from Kent State. The event, featuring players from 12 college teams, allowed Rushton break into college form, helping lead his team to a seventh place finish.
Rushton, originally from Cape Town, South Africa, used a huge first round to propel himself toward the top of the leaderboard. He birdied five holes, including four in a row on the front nine, and was tied for the lead after round one with a 4-under-par 67.

After a second round 2-over-par 73, he bounced back with four birdies en route to a final round 1-under-par 70. It was an impressive performance in his first taste of college competition, and his head coach Jim Kubinski was pleased with what he saw from Rushton.
“To see Matt excel through the bag is exciting for us,” Kubinski said. “He was so solid, from his attitude and focus to his ball striking and putting. He just seemed so comfortable out there, which allows a player to have great success.”
As a three-year IJGT member, Rushton built up a resume chock-full of notable finishes, including three first-place wins. Two of these came in the 2012-2013 season, at the Oct. 13-14 Port Royal Golf Club event and the Dec. 1-2 Old South Golf Links event.
Rushton and the Irish will return to action Sept. 23-24 at the eighth annual Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic.
Richy Werenski, a well-known IJGT alum and current Georgia Tech senior, participated in the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, GA on Sept. 6-8, where he finished tied-for-fifth.
Werenski birdied four holes in the first round to tally a day one score 2-under-par 70. After a rough second round where he shot 5-over-par 77, Werenski bounced back in a big way, posting six birdies en route to a final round 5-under-par 67.
Overall, he finished with a final score of 2-under-par 214. Werenski’s score gave him his fifth top-10 finish of his Yellow Jacket career.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Sept. 14 in the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel, Hill, N.C.
