Terminello wins his first IJGT event by two strokes
Braman takes home the Girls Division title for the second time this season
The IJGT hosted the IJGT Junior Open at Pelham Bay as part of the Northeast Tour on October 11-12, 2014. With only three tournaments left in the fall season for the Northeast Tour, juniors competed for IJGT merit points and national rankings.
Paul Terminello of White Plains, N.Y., the winner of the Boys 15-19 Division, shot a 2-over 144 for the tournament. Terminello led round one and carried his lead through round two to finish nine strokes in front. His performance was highlighted by 14 pars and 10 total birdies, the most birdies for the round across all three divisions.
Finishing in second was Mark Benevento of Somers Point, N.J. Benevento trailed Terminello at the end of round one and despite shaving four strokes from his round one score, he remained two strokes shy of Terminello, finishing with a two day total 146. Both Terminello and Benevento’s even-par scores of 71 earned them the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male(s) and female(s) with the lowest score in the final round of tournament play. Rounding out the top three was Dominic Pizzurro-Gomez of White Plains, N.Y., with a total 150.
Matthew Minerva Jr. of Elmsford, N.Y., took the first place trophy in the Boys 14 & Under Division. His opening round of 76 led the group and he returned in round two to add a score of 75. Twenty total pars and a pair of birdies in both rounds highlighted his two-day total of 151. Chaim Yi of Rye, N.Y., finished in second place with a total 172 and Rich Jones of Moriches, N.Y., rounded out the winners’ circle in third with a score of 180.
In the Girls Divison, Madison Braman of Loudonville, N.Y., finished in first place with rounds of 74 and 78 for a 152 total. Playing in her fifth event of the season, the New York native took home the first place trophy for the second time. Braman used 21 pars and three birdies to help her to victory.
Soona Lee-Tolley of New York, N.Y., posted the best score of round two (78) to earn the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award in addition to second place. Lee-Tolley finished with a total 161 while third place finisher Caroline Hodge of Larchmont, N.Y., recorded a total of 165.
