IJGT Southeast Kickoff at Crescent Pointe – Final Results

Galdin fires 65 on final day to capture title

Uwadia shoot 3-under-par to win Girls Division

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued the 2015 Fall Season with the IJGT Southeast Kickoff at Crescent Pointe Golf Club. Junior golfers ages 10-19 years old representing 17 different states and 15 countries competed in the 36-hole tournament for IJGT Merit Points, National Rankings, and AJGA Performance Stars.

Lino Galdin of Nevny, France, won the Boys 15-19 Division after a phenomenal final round of 6-under, 65 on the par-71 Crescent Pointe Golf Club. During the first round, Galdin got off to a rough start making double bogey on his opening hole, but he was able to quickly bounce back making four more birdies on his opening nine. He would end the day with five birdies and a round of 2-over, 73 putting him in a tie for third place going into the final round.

The last day was a birdie fest for Galdin. On the front nine, he made birdie on three of his first five holes. Then he caught fire on the back nine closing the tournament with five birdies. In total, Galdin finished the event with a tournament score of 4-under, 138 to earn his first IJGT victory.

“I wanted to play as well as possible, and get as many birdies as I could. I had eight birdies so I’m very happy,” said Galdin.

Galdin’s score of 6-under, 65 also earned him the Clazic Low Final Round Award which goes to the boy and girl who shoot the lowest score in the final round of every IJGT event.

It took an incredible performance from Galdin to hold off Colton Tanner of Westport, Conn. Tanner finished the tournament with a tournament total of 2-under, 140 including a final-round score of 2-under, 69. Rounding out the top three was Tristan Galant of Cape Town, South Africa who finished with a tournament total of 1-under, 141 including a 3-under, 68 in the final round.

In the Girls Division, Anita Uwadia of Hilton Head Island, S.C., earned the victory in dominant fashion. Uwadia came to play in the first round carding a 4-under, 67 to build a six-stroke lead. Her round was highlighted by two eagles and one birdie.

The tournament was Uwadia’s to lose in the final round, but she did not let her foot off the accelerator. Although she did not have her “A” game, Uwadia still managed to shoot a 1-over, 72 to secure an eight-stroke victory. During the final round, Uwadia had a stretch of 13 straight pars. This was the University of South Carolina commit’s first IJGT victory.

“It feels amazing to win. That’s what keeps me going. The more I win, the more I want to keep playing,” commented Uwadia.

Finishing in second place in the Girls Division was Linda Trockel of Berlin, Germany, with a tournament total of 147. Melany Chong of Mississauga, Canada, finished in third place with a total score of 148. Chong fired a 1-under, 70 in the final round to earn the Clazic Low Final Round Award in the Girls Division.

Chase Phillips of Hilton Head Island, S.C., earned the title in Boys 14 & Under Division after putting together two solid rounds for a tournament total of 151. Phillips started the tournament with a 76 and had two birdies in his round to build a two-stroke lead heading into the final round.

His fellow competitors were within striking distance until Phillips slammed the door shut with a birdie on his 14th hole of the day. He finished the day with a 4-over, 75 giving him his second IJGT title in the Boys 14 & Under Division.

“I knew I had the lead after hole after my 14th hole when I had a birdie…I was very excited but stayed focused,” said Phillips.

Finishing in second place was Yuxuan Zou of Chongqing, China, with a tournament score of 155. Daniel Song of Howey in the Hills, Fla., captured third place with a tournament total of 156.
