The IJGT continued it’s spring season on January 24-25, 2015, with the Carolina Classic at Colleton River. After inclement weather kept junior golfers off the course Saturday, Sunday dawned bright and clear, perfect weather for the 27-hole format. Following this event the IJGT is proud to award Player of the Week honors to Taylor Kay-Green of Needham, Mass., and Melany Chong of Mississauga, Ontario.
In his closing nine holes, Kay-Green carded par or better on eight of the nine holes, improving his score on his first go at the back nine by an impressive four strokes. His performance included a birdie on the difficult par-5 hole No. 16. His performance propelled him to his best finish in an IJGT event. Kay-Green tied for third in the division on the par-3 leaderboard, averaging even par on the course’s par-3 holes.
After finishing her first round of back nine holes, Chong finished with a 5-over 41. Determined to improve, Chong returned to the back nine for her final nine holes of the event and used two birdies and three pars to shave two strokes from her score for a score of 39. Her scores helped earn her second place in the Girls Division, a personal best in her IJGT career.
Congratulations for Kay-Green and Chong on their Player of the Week honors!
