Lowcountry Junior at Wexford Plantation – Round one recap (Jan. 31, 2015)

The IJGT stayed local for its third tournament of the spring season, the Lowcountry Junior at Wexford Plantation. In chilly but bright conditions, juniors teed off starting at 8:51 a.m. for the first of two rounds. In review, below are each division’s leaders’ rounds, in numbers.

The Boys 15-19 Division is led by Matt Cheng of Taipei, Taiwan. His round in numbers:

1 – the number of strokes he leads by in the division

2 – this is his second IJGT Lowcountry Junior appearance

4.5 – his division-best average on the course’s par-5s

77 – his round one score to carry the lead

Kelly Whaley of Farmington, Conn., and Sophia Burnett of Bluffton, S.C., are tied for first in the Girls Division. Their rounds in numbers:

WHALEY:

39 – her score on the front nine

8 – Whaley’s lone birdie of the day came on the difficult par-5 No. 8

3 – Whaley made par on the first three holes of the tournament

BURNETT:

1 – this is Burnett’s first IJGT event

3 – she closed out the first round by making par on the final three holes

2 – Burnett leads the division for round-one birdies with two

Leading the Boys 14 & Under Division is Ayushmaan Jaiswal of Wesley Chapel, Fla. His round in numbers:

14 – Jaiswal leads the division by 14 strokes

2 – consecutive pars he carded to close out the front nine

6- the Lowcountry Junior is Jaiswal’s sixth IJGT event of the season
