Lowest round in the IJGT 2015-2016 Season in the Boys Division. Phillips fights hard to take the title of the Boys 14 & Under Division
Hardeeville, S.C. – The International Junior Golf Tour continued their tour in Hardeeville, S.C., with the IMG Junior World Qualifier at Hilton Head Lakes. The winners in each division will have an exemption into the IMG Junior World in San Diego, C.A., this summer. With the weather finally cooperating, players competed for National Rankings and IJGT Merit Points. The top five players in each division earned preferred entry into any IJGT Major Championship and the Champions of each division earned an invitation to the 2016 IJGT Tournament of Champions.
In the Girls Division, there was a close run for the championship title. After shooting (-3) in her first round, Yukie Sasaki held onto the number one spot, carding a 74 today. Sasaki, from Hiroshima, Japan, had a total of 143 just two strokes in front of the second place finisher. Ximena Gonzalez, of Queretaro, Mexico, kept both her rounds consistent. Gonzalez finished with a total of 145, (+1). Kayla Kozak finished third with a final round at even par.
In the Boys 14 and Under Division Chase Phillips came from third place after round one, to take the championship. Phillips, from Hilton Head Island, S.C., fired an impressive (+1) in his final round for a total of 154. Coming in second place was Luca Jumabhoy. Jumabhoy, from Sydney, Australia, signed for a total of 161. Rounding out the 14 & Under Division was Theo Chronos, shooting a total of 163.
In the Boys 15-19 Division, we had a player shoot the lowest round this year in the IJGT. In the second round of the IMG Junior World Qualifier, Ian Peng shot a 66. Peng, of Chang Hau, Taiwan, had a total of 137, (-7) for the tournament to claim the Championship. Behind Peng was Arjun Puri, who also had an impressive weekend. Puri, of New Delhi, India, had a total of 138, (-6). Coming in third was Mark Goodall. Goodall of Livingston, Scotland, shot a total of 144.
Each player attributed their success to their coaches and the support of their friends and family.
Each tournament the IJGT recognizes the low final round, presented by Clazic Belts. This tournament the Girls Division had four girls tie at 72. In the Boys Division the award was given to the player shooting 66.
The IJGT will continue the Spring 2016 Season with the MET Junior Championship at Flanders Valley in Flanders, N.J. Players will compete for IJGT Merit Points, AJGA Performance Stars, and National Rankings. To sign up for this event, or others, visit IJGT.com or call (844) 779-3374.
