  Nicholas takes third IJGT title

Clark captures championship

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled up to Bulle Rock to host the third Major Championship of the 2014 season. The weather was prime for golf as a field of 74 competitors came out to compete. At stake were double IJGT Merit Points, AJGA Stars, and national rankings, as well as an invite to the IJGT’s Bridgestone Tournament of Champions to be played at Grand Cypress Resort on May 24-26, 2014.

JAMESNICIn the Boys 15-19 Division, James Nicholas, of Scarsdale, N.Y., took home his third IJGT title. Nicholas earned his third championship by playing great golf on both days. He finished round one with a 1-over-par score of 73. His first round featured five birdies including a streak of eight holes where he made par or better. In the final round, he added five more birdies and 11 pars to finish with a final round score of 3-under-par 69. Nicholas’ 69 won the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. This award goes to the player that shoots the lowest score during the final round of the tournament. His final numbers for the weekend were 73-69—142.

When asked how it feels to win his third IJGT event this season, Nicholas replied, “It’s amazing. Just to win one is awesome but three in a row is kind of cool…I am very thankful right now.”

Walter Egloff of Chevy Chase, Md., finished in second place with score of 74-75—149. Tom Crow of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ryan Podufal of Erie, Pa., finished tied for third place. Crow posted scores of 77-73—150, while Podufal posted scores of 76-74—150.

Nguyen had three birdies throughout the weekend, two of which came during her final round. Her numbers of 82-77—159 were good enough to win her division by six strokes. Nguyen’s final round score of 77 was the best in her division, earning her the Clazic Low Belts Final Round Award.

When asked what helped her score so well during the final round, Nguyen stated, “Keeping it in the fairway. The rough here is pretty thick and I kept to my plan of hitting fairways and greens which worked out today.”

Haley Carr of Waldorf, Md., took second place with scores of 84-81–165. Finishing in third place was Alessandra Ricigliano of Scarsdale, N.Y., who shot 82-85—167.
