International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Presents
Orange County National Junior
Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge
October 1-2, 2016
Orlando, FL.– The International Junior Golf continued their fall tour down in Orlando, Fla. at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge. With the course, Crooked Cat, in pristine condition, there were a dozen of scores under-par on both days. Greens were lighting fast, fairways were wide open, and the weather conditions were picture perfect for this two-day tournament.
The Boys 15-19 Division Champion winner, Robin Williams, had an impressive two-day total of 149, five under par. Williams, of Leeds, United Kingdom, carded eleven birdies and stayed under par both days. He battled against forty-seven players to take the champion title. Coming in second place from Venezuela, was Luis Martinez. Martinez shot even par the first day, then stepped up to shoot three-under par to move up in the field. Martinez had five biridies in total and only two bogeies. There was a tie for third place at two-under par. Jack Crawshaw and Cameron Sheedy tied with a score of 142.
“I played very well, I believe it was my irons. I set myself up for a lot of birdie putts. On the first day of the tournament I dug deep and I realized there were a lot of opportunities on the back. On the final round, my putting was much better. Without my putter, the results of today would have been very different,” remarked Williams.
The Boys 14 & Under Division had five players compete for the first place title. Taking the championship was Grant Gobezie of Hunting Valley, OH. Gobezie took the lead on day one after shooting a 71, one-under par. He finished the tournament with a total of 147, three over par. Fighting for the second place finish was Oscar De la Fuente of Queretaro, Mexico. After shooting an 80 in round one, Fuente came back to shoot even par to get him to a total of 152. Right behind him was Krishiv Tekchandani signing for a score of 153.
“I enjoyed the course this weekend. I played great and hit a lot of fairways. Hitting the fairways helped me score this weekend,” said Gobezie.
The Girls Division Champion carded a 150, and was awarded to Manhua Chen of Guangdong, China. With ten girls in the field this week, Chen broke away from the tie after day one to claim the Division. Chen shot 74, 76 for a total of 150 with five birdies on her score card. Rou Yin, of Zhejiang, China, came in second place, two strokes behind Chen. Yin had a combine total of 152 with four birdies. Rounding out the Girls Division was Peisha Fan, ten over par, a total of 154.
“I was happy that I played great all weekend. My putting was not the greatest unfortunately. My driver was my best club for the tournament. I hit many fairways and it kept me in play,” Chen explained
