Palmetto Open at Columbia Country Club first-round highlights – Ogawa, Weiss, Ashmore lead

The IJGT traveled to Columbia, S.C., for the Palmetto Open at the Columbia Country Club. Greeted by perfect golf weather with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s, the junior golfers took on a difficult course in round one. In review, below is each division’s leaders’ rounds, in numbers.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Tennoshin Ogawa of Ichinomiya-shi, Japan, leads. His round in numbers:

71 – round-one score after 18 holes

8 – the Palmetto Open is his eighth IJGT event of the 2013-2014 season

3 – number of birdies

2 – strokes Ogawa leads over his competition

1 – number of strokes under par

The Columbia, S.C. native, John Weiss, leads in the Boys 14 & Under Division. His round in numbers:

39 – score carded on both the front and back nine

6 – strokes over par after round one

4 – number of birdies tallied

1 – first IJGT event of Weiss’s career

Rounding out the leaderboard, Maggie Ashmore of Kingston, Ga., is in the lead. Her round in numbers:

75 – her round-one score

11 – made par on 11 of 18 holes in round one

6 – Palmetto Open is Ashmore’s sixth IJGT event of 2013-2014 season

3 – stroke lead over second place

2 – number of birdies, featured back-to-back on holes No. 3 and 4
