Kessel and Arjun earn Player of the Week honors – February 15-16, 2014

The IJGT traveled to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Major Championship at Kiawah Island on February 15-16, 2014. The tournament was held on two courses at Kiawah Island Golf Resort – the first round being held at Turtle Point and the final round being played at the world famous Ocean Course. This year’s event featured a talented field of junior golfers, all having to showcase their patience and perseverance while fearlessly playing through wind gusts of 20+ mph both rounds. The Players of the Week are Jake Kessel of Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and Nikita Arjun of Bangalore, India.

His first round was composed of three pars and a birdie on the par-3 No. 3, but his biggest accomplishment came on the par-3 No. 14, as he hit a hole-in-one from 164 yards out. Kessell put forth a steady and respectable performance during the final round, carding eight more pars and two additional birdies. Kessell looks to continue strong play throughout the remainder of the season with hopes to win the IJGT Bridgestone Golf Tournament Of Champions, May 24-26, 2014, in Orlando, Florida.[/column]

Arjun found herself in first place after an impressive first round at the Turtle Point course. She began her day on a good note, as she birded the par-5 hole No. 10. While most of the players in the tournament had great difficulty dealing with the stiff winds on hole Nos. 14, 15 and 16, Arjun played them perfectly, parring all three. Consistent play and two additional birdies in the first round resulted a score of one-over-par 73, the best round in the tournament across all divisions. She also played well in the second round, carding 10 pars and finishing with a score of 82. Her 73-82–155 overall score was good enough to earn second place, her seventh top-5 finish of the season. Arjun will look to continue her success at the Palmetto Open at Columbia Country Club, March 22-23, 2014.[/column]
