This past weekend, the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to St. Simons Island, Ga., for the Georgia Junior at Sea Island. Held on the famous Seaside Course, which plays host to the PGA Tour’s McGladrey Classic, the two-day tournament presented a tough challenge to all of the elite junior golfers in the field. Our players of the week, Sam Meuret and Jana Wuensch, battled windy conditions and quick greens en route to a pair of impressive finishes at the Event.
A native of Brunswick, Neb., Meuret finished tied for second overall in Boys 15-19 Division with a two-day total of 13-over-par 153, five strokes back of winner Chang Ju Lee of Seoul, South Korea. After shooting a first-round 8-over-par 78, Meuret came back on Sunday with a vengeance, posting the low round of the day with a 5-over-par 75. For his exploits on the tournament’s final day, he was awarded the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. In Meuret’s 12 appearances on the IJGT, he has posted four top-five finishes and five top-ten’s. He will look to add a tournament victory to his resume in the future.
In the Girls Division, Wuensch, a newcomer to the IJGT, made an incredible first impression en route to her first tournament win. She announced her presence to the rest of the field with a first-round score of 71, which was 1-over par. It was by far the low round of the day (and the tournament), earning her the KENTWOOL Socks Lo-Pro Award. Wuensch, who hails from Herrenberg, Germany, followed that up with a second-round 7-over-par 77, clinching both the win and the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award.
