HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — On March 2-3 the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) will return to the beautiful Barony Golf Course at Port Royal Golf Club to host the IJGT Family Weekend Tournament . The fun filled weekend starts on Friday with a shotgun-start scramble-format practice round for players and family members. Friday night ends in memorable fashion with a cook-out for all participants.
The Barony Course at Port Royal was designed by George W. Cobb in the early 1960’s and was one of the first courses on Hilton Head Island. From the tee box, many of the holes appear to be relatively open, but upon approaching the newly resurfaced bermuda greens, the real challenge becomes clear. The greens are generous and protected by thick rough and unforgiving bunkers. Golfers will need to put a premium on ball-striking this week, as accuracy is paramount.
All junior golfers competing this weekend will compete for national recognition and IJGT Merit Points. All three divisions will feature elite junior golfers ages 10-19 from around the world which should provide heightened competition and an entertaining weekend of junior golf.
In the Boys 15-19 Division, keep an eye out for title favorite Aaron Terrazas of Veracruz, Mexico.Terrazas will looking for his fifth division title of the season, and with seven consecutive top 10 finishes, he will be a player to watch all weekend long.
In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Taisuke Ono of Tokyo, Japan will be looking to get his first IJGT Event victory. Ono has multiple top three finishes under his belt already, but is continuing to strive towards his first outright victory of the season.
Spectators should watch out for Bria’ Sanders of Cordova, Tenn. in the Girls Division. Returning to Port Royal for the first time since her top 10 finish last October, Sanders is sure to be the player to watch.
