Stein and Clair earn career-best finishes to be named among IJGT Player of the Week – May 10-11, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa. – The IJGT returned to Hershey Country Club to conduct the Hershey Classic. Presented by the International Junior Golf Academy, one of the most popular events each year, on May 10-11, 2014. A full field of highly competitive junior golfers from six different states caught the attention of a number of college coaches who came out to the tournament. While the first round included intermittent rain, including a 30 minute delay and eventual postponement of the round, golfers were welcomed with ideal conditions for the final round. Dylan Stein, of Flemington, NJ, and Alyssa Schiera, of West Windsor, NJ, stood out and earned Player of the Week honors.

steinStein, playing in his third tournament of the year, had another impressive showing. Facing less than ideal scoring conditions on Saturday, Stein managed to shoot an impressive 73. The Flemington, New Jersey native’s Saturday round included four birdies, two on the front nine and two on the back, including one on the tough par 3 8th hole.  On Sunday, Stein picked up right where he left off by carding a birdie on the par-5 first hole. His consistent play in round two led him to shoot a 78. His round one and round two scores forced a playoff with James Nicholas. During the playoff, Stein had many impressive shots, perhaps none more impressive than the up-and-down from off the green on the first playoff hole. Although it was not enough to secure the victory, it did secure his best finish of the year for him. We wish Stein the best and hope to see him soon.

Schiera, an IJGT regular, having played six out of nine events this spring, had her best finish of the season. She started the weekend out nicely by parring her first hole and finished her front nine at 3-over-par 38. The highlight of her round was a birdie on the difficult par three, No. 16. She was the only girl to score under par on the hole and one of only five players to birdie the hole through the whole tournament. She finished round one with an 84 and in a six-way tie for fifth place. Schiera also played well throughout the final round, including another birdie on the par three, No. 2. She again finished with an 84, for an overall score of 168. Her third place finish is her best of the season and she improved on her previous best score of 2014 by four strokes. We wish Schiera the best of luck during her upcoming competitions at the Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay Country Club this weekend and the Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions, May 24-26, at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando.
