The Jack Nicklaus-inspired courses of Grand Cypress Resort, East/North Course and New Course will play host to an extensive field of juniors seeking victory. The East/North courses offer everything from sharply ledged fairways to greens located in tricky mazes of sand and water for an entertaining challenge. The New Course pays homage to the signature courses of Scotland featuring deep pot bunkers and stone walls and bridges.
As the Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions draws some of the IJGT’s finest juniors, watch for leaders of the tour rankings to compete for the title. Geuntae Kim of Daegu, South Korea, leads the IJGT Tour Rankings and will look to make the Tournament of Champions his fifth season win. Tennoshin Ogawa of Ichinomiya-shi, Japan, is in a close second in the tour rankings and also seeks the championship title after finishing fifth at the SC Callaway Junior World Qualifier at Golden Bear. Rounding out the top three of the Boys 15-19 Tour Rankings, James Nicholas of Scarsdale, N.Y., will look to bring home the trophy to continue his three-tournament winning streak.
The Boys 14 & Under Division will also feature fierce competition as Karl Vilips of Melbourne, Australia, Joe Parrini of York, Pa., and Chase Ingram of Bluffton, S.C., battle for the title. Vilips leads the divisional tour rankings with an impressive eight first-place finishes while Parrini adds five of his own sitting in second place. Ingram is not far behind in the tour rankings in fourth, securing a valuable win at the SC Callaway Junior World Qualifier at Golden Bear on May 3-4, 2014.
Don’t take your eyes of the Girls Division either – both Rei Nakatani of Tokyo, Japan, and Yeji Shin of Norwood, N.J., sit in the top five of the IJGT Tour Rankings. Nakatani looks to improve upon her eighth-place finish in the 2013 Tournament of Champions this year and will battle against Shin who will appear in her first Tournament of Champions.
