URBANA, Md.- The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) stopped outside Baltimore on September 21-22, 2013 for the Baltimore Junior at Worthington Manor Golf Club. The Ault-Clark signature course at Worthington Manor proved to be challenging during the first round as players battled the windy conditions followed by rain showers in the afternoon. Our players of the week this week are Luke Schaap of Potomac, Md. in the Boys 15-19 Division and William Sheedy of Washington, D.C. in the Boys U-14 Division.
Luke Schaap earned his ninth consecutive IJGT top three finish this past weekend at Worthington Manor. Even with the difficult weather conditions Luke was able to piece together two impressive rounds of 76 and 72 for a total of 148. Schaap found himself in a tie for third after day one with pack of players right behind him. In the final round, Schaap put together a round of four birdies and four bogeys to fire an even-par 72. The final round 72 tied the tournament low and claimed the Clazic Belts Low Final Round award. This is Schaap’s first IJGT event of the season and he will look to carry the momentum into his next event.
William Sheedy made a great run at the title on Sunday. In his third year on tour, Sheedy is no stranger to the top as he has one win and three top-ten finishes in the past two years. After firing a first round 85 in the wind and rain, he came back on Sunday to shoot a 78. A costly triple-bogey on the par four 12th hole set Sheedy back however he didn’t let that phase him as he continued with a string of pars on the back nine. Sheedy finished strong with a birdie on the par five 18th hole to put him one stroke back in second place. Sheedy will be one to watch next week as the IJGT returns to Maryland for the College Series at the University of Maryland on October 5-6, 2013.
