Southeast Tour

Bluffton, S.C. – The International Junior Golf Tour’s (IJGT) Southeast Tour headed to Bluffton, S.C. on Dec. 7-8 for the Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall Club. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was held at Hampton Hall’s Pete Dye Signature Course, with the first round being played in near perfect golfing conditions while the final round took place in cold, wet, and windy weather. This week’s Photo of the Week is of Daiki Okada of Tokyo, Japan eyeing his tee shot off the first tee during the first round.  Okada fired tournament totals of 78-80-158 to finish in a tie for 21st. Okada was one of only two players in the Boys 15-19 Division to birdie the 417-yard, par-4 12th hole during the final round.  This was Okada’s sixth appearance on the IJGT of the 2013-14 season, and he will next tee it up at the IJGA Invitational on Hilton Head Island on Dec. 14-15.

West Coast Tour

Carlsbad, Calif. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to Carlsbad, Calif., for the Major Championship at La Costa on Dec. 7-8, 2013. Held on the recently re-designed Legends Course at the La Costa Resort & Spa, this pen-ultimate West Coast Tour event of the 2013 calendar year featured a talented field of junior golfers. Playing in unusually chilly conditions for a California December, the competitors braved through winds and rain showers at times to make for a spectacular event. This week’s Photo of the Week is of J.T. Bloomer of Boise, Idaho, who emerged victorious for the first time in his IJGT career in the Boys 15-19 Division. Bloomer fired consecutive rounds of 79 to finish with a tournament total of 158, and run away with an 11-stroke victory. Bloomer was the only player in the field to birdie No. 16,  a 426-yard, par-4, over the weekend We look forward to seeing more strong play from Bloomer in the Spring Season!

IJGT Players of the Week – Dec. 7-8

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT)  hosted the Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall Club in Bluffton, S.C. on Dec. 7-8. Played on Hampton Hall Club’s Pete Dye Signature Course, highlighted by numerous water hazards, large and quick greens, and strategically placed bunkers, the two-day, 36-hole tournament featured 57 players representing 15 states and 15 countries. While the first round was played in near perfect conditions, the final round featured cold temperatures, wind, and rain. Our Southeast Tour Players of the Week for the Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall Club are John McCabe of Sewickley, Pa, and Jasmine Chee of Hong Kong, China.

John MccabeMcCabe (left) had a strong outing on his home course this past weekend at the Hampton Hall Club.  Mccabe was able to take advantage of his knowledge of the course and put together rounds of 77 and 75 to get himself into the top-ten.  McCabe fired a first round score of 77, placing him in a tie for 15th heading to the final round.  As scores rose with the tougher playing conditions, McCabe fought through, shooting a 75 and cracking the top-ten.  His final round score, which included shooting two birdies and an even-par, 36 on the back-nine, was the fourth-lowest score of the day.  This is McCabe’s seventh top-ten finish in his IJGT career and he will look to continue his successes finish when he next tees it up on Dec. 14-15 at the IJGA Invitional.

photo (17)Chee (right) put together her lowest career round on the IJGT during the first round, firing a 3-over-par, 75. During her round, Chee carded two birdies, including one on the par-4, 10th, which played as the toughest hole for the Girls Division. Chee fired a 1-over, 37 on the front-nine and a 2-over, 38 on the back-nine to complete her impressive first round. Chee’s 75 placed her 4th after the first round and it marked a three-stroke improvement over her previous career low with the IJGT, which was a 78 at the Sanctuary Shootout at Sanctuary Golf Club on Sep. 28-29, 2013. As with the majority of the field, Chee was unable to match her total from the prior day during the final round, carding an 83. With scores of 75-83-158, Chee finished in 5th place, marking her fourth top-5 finish of the 2013-14 season. Chee will hope to carry momentum from her strong performance at the Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall as she prepares for her next event at the IJGA Invitational on Dec. 14-15.

 

West Coast Tour

CARLSBAD, Calif. — The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to Carlsbad, Calif., for the Major Championship at La Costa on Dec. 7-8, 2013. Held on the recently re-designed Legends Course at the La Costa Resort & Spa, this pen-ultimate West Coast Tour event of the 2013 calendar year featured a talented field of junior golfers. Playing in unusually chilly conditions for a California December, the competitors braved through winds and rain showers at times to make for a spectacular event. The Players of the Week for the West Coast region are Ryan Rybicki of Maricopa, Ariz., and Madeleine Garay of La Jolla, Calif.

Rybicki Tee (crop)Rybicki (left) put together two solid rounds on the tough Legends Course at La Costa, shooting a first-round 84 followed up by a final-round 85 to finish in second place in the Boys 15-19 Division. His first round was composed of six pars and a birdie on the par-5 No. 9, which capped off a front-nine 41 before he closed out the back with a 43. Rybicki put forth a similar performance during the final round, carding six more pars and another birdie on the par-5 No. 7 en route to a 38 on the front nine, making a three-stroke improvement. He turned in a one-over-par effort on the course’s par-5s on both days. Rybicki looks to continue this strong level of play when he competes for the top rankings at IJGT’s West Coast finale at the Scottsdale Open at Troon North on Dec. 14-15.

Garay Putt (crop)Garay (right) was the Girls Division victor in her first-ever IJGT appearance. She shot a tournament total 181, which was highlighted by her impressive five-stroke improvement on the difficult Legends course on the final day. Her first and final rounds both comprised of six pars, where four of her pars on the final day came on holes (Nos. 5, 9 and 14) on which she previously shot higher. This performance was good enough to earn her the Player of the Week honors in her first IJGT Event. We look forward to seeing her improve in future tournaments!

First Round Highlights from the Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall

Bluffton, S.C. – Temperatures hovering around 70 defined a perfect day for golf at the first round of the International Junior Golf Tour’s (IJGT) Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall on Dec. 7. Being held on the Pete Dye Signature Course at Hampton Hall Club, the tournament featured 56 players from 15 states and 15 countries. Players are eagerly competing for national rankings as well as IJGT Merit Points, and with a field full of talented junior golfers, the final round looks to bring as many highlights as the first round. Here are your leaders heading into the final round of the Bluffton Junior at Hampton Hall on Dec. 8.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Chris Magi of Montreal, Canada leads after shooting a 6-under, 66. Here is Magi’s round by the numbers:
