International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Presents

The Spring Architects Cup at Architects GC

Lopatcong, N.J.

Boys 15- 19 Division has one hole play-off.

Kweon claims Girls Division.

Lopatcong, N.J.– The International Junior Golf Tour continued their series in Lopatcong, N.J. for the Spring Architects Cup. Finally feeling like spring, over a 100 players competed this weekend. Players competed for National Rankings and IJGT Merit Points. The top five players in each division earned preferred entry into any IJGT Major Championship and the Champions of each division earned an invitation to the 2016 IJGT Tournament of Champions.

The Boys 15-19 Division had an exciting round two, with two players fighting for the championship that resulted in a playoff. Matt Graeff and DJ Griffiths both shot a one under par to compete in the play off. Graeff, from Blue Bell, P.A., had a round one score of 70 and shot even par on round two. Griffiths, of Binghamton, N.Y., fired a 73 in round one and had a comeback in round two carding a 68. Graeff claimed the champion title after a one hole playoff, where he had a birdie. Right behind the leaders, there was a tie for third. Andrew Lombardo and James McHugh shot even par to tie.

“The course was scoreable and I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. The best shot I had during the tournament was my tee shot on 16. I hit a great tee shot and stuck my second shot from 170 yards. It was the best shot because I knew where I stood and it was a pressure moment. Being the champion feels great because you always envision yourself in a playoff and winning it,” said Graeff.

With eleven boys competing in the Boys 14 & Under Division, Maxwell Sorger took the first place title home. Sorger, of Montclair, N.J., shot a 9 over par, a total of 151. Coming in 3 strokes behind Sorger was Jude Cummings. Cummings, of Pittsford, N.Y., shot a total of 154. Stephen Lorenzo, of Lower Gwynedd, P.A., took the third place title with a total of 156.

“My mind set was simple; come in and put up a good number, and if I did that I would have a chance. My best shot was my second shot on 18, I hit it close from 170 yards and made the birdie putt. I credit my short-to-mid irons for my win today,” remarked Sorger.

The Girls Division also had the top three players at a close range. Shooting a three-over par was Jessie Kweon. Kweon, of Little Neck, N.Y., had five birdies and nothing higher than a bogey. One stroke behind the leader was Katie Lee. Lee, of Ringoes, N.J., fired a total of 146. There was a tie for third place between Caroline Hodge and Esther Park. Both girls shot six-over par, a total of 148.

Each tournament the IJGT recognizes the Low Final round thanks to our sponsor Clazic Belts. At the Spring Architects Cup the winners were:

Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass – Final Results

Beshoory earns first IJGT title at TPC Sawgrass

Tadokoro victorious in Girls Division

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued the 2015 Fall Season with the annual Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass. Junior golfers ages 10-19 years old representing 14 different states and 20 countries competed in the 54-hole tournament for IJGT Merit Points, National Rankings, World Amateur Golf Rankings, and AJGA Performance Stars.

The first and final rounds were contested on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, which is home to the PGA Tour’s The PLAYERS Championship. The second round was held at Dye’s Valley Course, which is home to the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship.

Pryce Beshoory of Pearland, Texas, won the Boys 15-19 Division in dramatic fashion at the famed Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. In the first round, also contested on the Stadium Course, Beshoory carded a solid 2-over, 74 to put himself in second place. Beshoory played the back nine on the Stadium Course in 3-under, 33. The leader after round one was Sampson Zheng of Orlando, Fla., who carded a 1-over, 73.

The second round switched over to the Valley Course where high winds made scoring conditions very challenging. Beshoory was able to put a solid round of 3-over, 75 together to remain within one of Zheng’s lead. Zheng also fired a 3-over, 75, a round that included four birdies.

The final round on the Stadium Course was no different as Beshoory and Zheng battled back and forth all day. After nine holes, Beshoory squared up the tournament, and then took the lead after hole No. 10. Zheng would not back down as he rebounded and tied everything after 11 holes. The two juniors remained tied until hole No. 16 where Beshoory hit the par-5 green in two and two-putted for birdie to take a one-stroke lead. Both players made par on the famous island green, hole No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass. Beshoory was able to convert an up-and-down on hole No. 18 to finish with an even-par 72 and a one-stroke victory over Zheng.

This was my first IJGT Tournament and I had a blast. I love the tour and the international people. It was great to play with them,” commented Beshoory.

Beshoory’s final-round score of even-par, 72 earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award which goes to the boy and girl that record the lowest final round score in each IJGT tournament.

Zheng claimed runner-up honors with a tournament total of 222. Shiso Go of Kanagawa, Japan, took home third place after finishing with a tournament score of 227.

Sera Tadokoro of Osaka, Japan, won the Girls Division in wire-to-wire fashion with a tournament score of 239. Tadokoro opened up the tournament with a first-round score of 82 to build a one-stroke cushion over the rest of the field. Consistent winds of 15 mph with gusts of over 20 mph made the difficult Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass even more challenging.

Tadokoro took control of the tournament in the second round on the Valley Course. She carded a 3-over, 75 to build a six-stroke lead. Her round of 75 was the lowest of the tournament in the Girls Division.

The final round did not get off to a good start for Tadokoro. She made the turn with a 45 on the front nine, and her lead of six strokes was gone. Caroline Hodge of Larchmont, N.Y., fought back to tie it up. Tadokoro was able to maintain her composure and she played her first four holes on the back nine in 1-under-par to reclaim her lead. Tadokoro closed with a 1-over, 37 on the back nine to claim a four-stroke victory, which was her sixth career IJGT title.

“My long game was working for me, my driver and irons. I had fun playing on the Valley Course,” said Tadokoro.

Hodge finished in second place with a tournament total of 243. Hodge’s final-round score of 80 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award in the Girls Division. There was a tie for third place between Wint Phoo Aung of Yangon, Myanmar, and Kristin Whitehead of Johannesburg, South Africa, who finished with a tournament score of 252.

Will Whittaker of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., won the Boys 14 & Under Division in wire-to-wire fashion carding a three-day total of 244. Whittaker got off to a great start in the first round at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass carding a 78 to build a seven-stroke lead. His round of 78 was the lowest round of the tournament in the Boys 14 & Under Division.

In the second round, Whittaker did not have his best game in the challenging weather conditions on the Valley Course. However, his fellow competitors were not able to make up much ground leaving Whittaker with a five-stroke lead going into the final round.

Whittaker knew that if he was able to play his game, he would control his own destiny. After nine holes, Whittaker still led by five shots, but after two double-bogeys his lead evaporated to nothing when Ty Vanitvelt of Grand Blanc, Mich., made birdie on hole No. 12 to square things. Whittaker was not going to back down and he responded like a true champion playing his last six holes in 2-under-par including back-to-back birdies on the famous 16th and 17th holes at TPC Sawgrass. Whittaker closed the final round with an 81 to claim the victory, which was his first IJGT tournament victory.

“I have played at this same tournament three times. From my first time playing to today, I have knocked off 50 strokes. I have been working really hard,” said Whittaker.

Vanitvelt took home second place after finishing with a tournament total of 249. Chase Phillips of Hilton Head Island, S.C., finished in third place with a tournament total of 257.

The IJGT will conclude the Fall 2015 Season in Hilton Head Island, S.C., with the IJGA Invitational on Dec. 12-13, 2015. IJGT Junior Open at Pelham Bay – Final results (Oct. 12, 2014)

Terminello wins his first IJGT event by two strokes
Braman takes home the Girls Division title for the second time this season

The IJGT hosted the IJGT Junior Open at Pelham Bay as part of the Northeast Tour on October 11-12, 2014. With only three tournaments left in the fall season for the Northeast Tour, juniors competed for IJGT merit points and national rankings.

DSCN9133Paul Terminello of White Plains, N.Y., the winner of the Boys 15-19 Division, shot a 2-over 144 for the tournament. Terminello led round one and carried his lead through round two to finish nine strokes in front. His performance was highlighted by 14 pars and 10 total birdies, the most birdies for the round across all three divisions.

Finishing in second was Mark Benevento of Somers Point, N.J. Benevento trailed Terminello at the end of round one and despite shaving four strokes from his round one score, he remained two strokes shy of Terminello, finishing with a two day total 146.
