Stokes, Tadokoro receive IJGT Player of the Week Honors – Dec. 9, 2014

The IJGT traveled to Savannah, Ga., on December 6-7, 2014, to host the Savannah Junior at The Landings Club. The Marshwood course was in great shape with the greens rolling smooth and fast providing a fun challenge for the junior golfers, especially on downhill putts. The weather, however, was not as fun; fog set in for the day on Saturday and cold and breezy conditions prevailed on Sunday. This week’s Player of the Week honors following the Savannah Junior go to Jason Stokes of St. Brelade, Jersey, and Sera Tadokoro of Osaka, Japan.

Jason Stokes

Jason Stokes

Stokes started round one on the 10th tee and played his first nine holes at 1-over par by carding six pars and one birdie. Then, the fog started to roll in off the marsh and the entire field began to see their scores increase. Stokes finished round one with a total score of 7-over par 79, tying him for ninth place.

Round two started early for Stokes as he was in one of the first groups off of hole No. 10. With wind gusts of over 20 mph, scoring looked to be tough. However, Stokes found a way to play his first nine holes at just 2-over par and looked to be in contention for the victory. He carried his momentum into his second nine and shot 1-under par with birdies on the two par-5’s. His round two 1-over-par 73 earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for shooting the lowest final round across both boys’ divisions. His tournament total of 152 landed him in a tie for second place.

Sera Tadokoro

Sera Tadokoro

Tadokoro took the early lead in the Savannah Junior and never looked back. She improved on her round one score by nine strokes to finish round two with a 1-under-par 71. She was the only golfer to finish round two under par, which earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female golfers to card the lowest score in the final round of the event. Tadokoro closed out her back nine in round two with a seven-hole par-or-better streak, including back-to-back birdies on the par-3 hole No. 16 and the par-4 hole No. 17.

Congratulations to Jason Stokes and Sera Tadokoro on earning this week’s Player of the Week honors!

Go, Zeng earn IJGT Player of the Week honors (Dec. 2, 2014)

The IJGT traveled to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., on November 27-29, for the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass. The course, rated the top course to play in the state of Florida by Golfweek, did not disappoint, however the weather was a bit of a surprise for the “Sunshine State.” With cold mornings and windy afternoons, the juniors from all over the world were forced to plan each shot accordingly. Following the event, the IJGT is proud to award this week’s Player of the Week honors to Shiso Go of Kanagawa, Japan, and Bunyaporn Zeng of Bangkok, Thailand.

Shiso Go

Shiso Go

Go, who was the Boys 15-19 Champion at the Major Championship at Dormie Club, started out slowly in round one on the Dye’s Valley Course with bogies on three of his first four holes. He finished the round by shooting a score of 82, which put him in a tie for 27th place.

Go rallied in the second round starting the day with an even-par score of 36 on the front nine with birdies on the par-5 No. 1 and the par-4 No. 6 on the back nine, Go was able to birdie three of the last five holes to give him some confidence moving into round three on Saturday. His round two score of 2-under par, 70, was enough to boost him into the top 10.

Round three was played on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, home of THE PLAYERS Championship, and the course was in pristine condition. In round three Go once again played the front nine holes at even par, 36, carding birdies on holes No. 3, 6, and 9.  The back nine proved to be tough for the entire field but Go was still able to card three birdies on holes No. 12, 15, and 16, on his way to a final round total of 3-over par, 75. His 227 tournament total was good enough for a share of third place.

Bunyaporn Zeng

Despite the cold weather, Bunyaporn Zeng started the weekend strong scoring par-or-better on 14 holes in the first round including a run of six pars in a row on the back nine. Her opening round score of 76 put her in third heading into the second round.

Although she struggled with bogeys in the second round, Zeng managed to finish the day at 79, good for fourth overall.

Zeng was hot in round three shooting one-under on the front nine with birdies on holes No. 5 and 9. She finished the day with an even-par 72, earning her the Clazic Belt Low Final Round Award.

Congratulations to Shiso Go and Bunyaporn Zeng on earning IJGT Player of the Week honors!
