IJGT Alumni Shine at Western Refining College All-American

The International Junior Golf Tour had three alumni shine at the Western Refining College All-American which took place November 7-8, at El Paso Country Club.

Zach Jaworski, a current senior at Vanderbilt University, earned the victory after putting together a solid 3 day performance of 71-69-67 for a 6 under 207 total. Jaworski won the event by shooting the best final day score, 67, and holding off Vanderbilt teammate Matthias Schwab, who finished in a three way tie for second place.

Jaworski struggled in the middle of his round with bogeys on 7 and 8. He recovered strongly over the last ten holes, where he carded 4 birdies and 6 pars. This is what Jaworski told Golfstat.com following his round, “Off the tee I wasn’t as solid as I would have liked, but around the greens I got the putter going and got hot. I made a lot of birdies coming in and a 32 on the back nine really did it.”

Two other IJGT Alumni had successful showing in the tournament. Zach Wright of LSU finished in three way tie for second and Beau Hossler finished tied for fifth. Hossler started the in 11th place but was able to card his eighth round under par for the season which helped move him into a tie for 5th.

IJGT’s Summer Kitahara to join Carnegie Mellon Women’s Golf program

As the summer season winds down Summer Kitahara of Greenwich, Conn., is among the masses of high school graduates preparing for the next chapter of their lives. Having made the most of her four years at the Rye Country Day School in Rye, N.Y., Kitahara graduated not only with prestigious academic distinctions but also an impressive golf resume – both of which will lead her to Carnegie Mellon’s campus in Pittsburgh, Pa., this fall.

Summer Kitahara

With a passion for golf, Kitahara served as a two-year captain of the girl’s varsity team at the Rye Country Day School, also serving as a captain for the tennis team in the off-season. Repeat stellar performances earned Kitahara the 2013 Girl’s Varsity Golf Coach’s Award, the 2013 Girl’s Varsity Tennis Wildcat MVP Award and the 2014 Girl’s Varsity Golf Wildcat MVP Award.

Unable to get enough golf, Kitahara also participated in Metropolitan Junior PGA events as well as IJGT events to increase her tournament experience while growing her game. In more than 10 events with the IJGT, Kitahara has finished in the top-20 in each event, four of which were top-10. Her IJGT career best performance came at the IJGT Metropolitan Junior at Forsgate Country Club on March 29-30, 2014, where she finished third.

Carnegie Mellon added women’s golf to the athletic department for the 2013-2014 season for the first time in the school’s history. Kitahara will join the Tartans’ squad for the second inaugural season as a freshman.

Outside of the hours spent training for golf, Kitahara dedicated countless hours to excelling in the classroom. Her passion for computer science earned her the 2013 Computer Science Award, solidifying her intentions to pursue a degree in from the Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science.

Congratulations to Kitahara on behalf of the entire IJGT community, we wish you well in you future endeavors!

Are you a member of the IJGT headed somewhere to play college golf? Let us know! We love to tell the world about our wonderful IJGT juniors!
