IJGT Discovery Tour at Blue Heron Pines – Final Results

The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) hosted its first Discovery Tour event of the season in the Northeast on October 12. The tournament was hosted by Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor City, N.J. The nine-hole event featured players ages 8-11. Rainy and windy weather was present throughout the day.

Discovery Tour Blue Heron Pines 058In the Boys Division, Ryan D’Ariano of West Chester, Pa., came out victorious. D’Ariano fired a 40 on the front nine of Blue Heron Pines. He began his day with a par on the first hole, but dropped a stroke on the par-3 second hole. D’Ariano quickly recovered with his only birdie at the third hole. Perhaps the highlight of D’Ariano’s round came at the par-3 fourth hole, as he got up-and-down for par from beneath a tree. Jay Collela of Marcellus, N.Y., finished in second place with a 44. Colella took advantage of the two par-3s on the front side, playing them at 2-under-par. A tough three-hole stretch to end the round opened the door for D’Ariano to earn the victory. Clay Breidenstein of Hummelstown, Pa., finished third.

Discovery Tour Blue Heron Pines 060In the Girls Division, Elizabeth Beek of Blue Bell, Pa., won for the second time in her IJGT Discovery Tour career. Beek hit 7-of-7 fairways in regulation on her way to shooting a 46. She began her round with a bogey but made an up-and-down for par on the second hole to gain some momentum. On the par-4 seventh hole, Beek hit her approach shot within 10 feet of the cup and left herself a chance for birdie, but her putt skimmed the edge of the cup and did not fall. She recorded the second par of her round on the hole. The 8-year-old will be playing in the IJGT’s next Discovery Tour Event on Oct. 26, 2013 at Hershey Links in Hummelstown, Pa.

IJGT announces the Fall 2013 Discovery Tour schedule

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) is thrilled to announce its Fall 2013 Discovery Tour schedule. The tour invites kids ages 8-12 to gain tournament experience as well as improve their golf game, while above all having fun. With four Discovery Tour events scheduled we are expecting to have the highest turnout to date. The Discovery Tour is a laid back alternative to the IJGT, and is designed to give kids the chance to play with golfers  of similar age and skill level.

The Northeast Tour will consist of two spectacular golf courses. The first stop is the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Cologne, N.J. This course was given four stars by Golf Digest and continues to exceed expectations by being recognized as the best 18-hole golf course on the Jersey Shore. With a notoriously difficult 15th hole the kids of the Discovery Tour are sure to find the course an exciting challenge that will help them hone their golf skills.

The second stop on the Northeast tour will be at an IJGT favorite, the Hershey Links Golf Club in Hershey, Pa. The golf course is a par-72 that stretches 175 acres and features links-style golf with tall fescue grasses and bentgrass greens. This will be the last season the Hershey Links course will be open and we are thrilled to have one last chance to play it.

Our Southeast leg of the tour will be featuring two of Hilton Head Island’s best golf courses. The first will be held at Palmetto Hall on the Arthur Hills golf course, which opened in 1991 and was instantly rated as one of America’s top 10 New Courses. Their signature par-4 18th hole offers a variety of obstacles that are sure to keep any golfer on their toes. The tour will also be headed to Hilton Head National, which is considered the “best of the best” by the locals of Hilton Head Island.

At the end of the 2013-2014 Discovery Tour season the junior golfer that earns the most points in each division will earn a free week of summer golf camp at the International Junior Golf Academy.

September 7th – Hilton Head National

October 12th – Blue Heron Pines

October 26th – Hershey Links

November 2nd – Palmetto Hall – Hills Course

Photos of the Week – May 11-12, 2013

West Coast Tour

Cole Shintaku

This week’s Photo of the Week features Cole Shintaku, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii. Shintaku, pictured here teeing off on the first hole, tied for second place in last weekend’s PURE Grips Shootout at Troon North. Shintaku kept his shots straight and consistent on Sunday as evidenced by his birdie on the par-5 11th hole. Troon North is a beautiful course carved out of the desert of Scottsdale, Ariz., that forces golfers to make aggressive plays that can quickly ruin a day’s score. Shintaku managed to reign in the desert and finish the weekend with both a second-place finish as well as Photo of the Week honors. The International Junior Golf Tour was excited to have Shintaku travel from the islands of Hawaii and looks forward to seeing him in the future.

Southeast Tour

Aaron Elmore

It has been quite a week for Aaron Elmore of Rincon, Ga., who is pictured above with his second-place trophy in the Orlando Junior at Falcons Fire Golf Club. Things started well on Sunday with a strong finish in the tournament. Next, Elmore earned Player of the Week honors, and today he is the featured Photo of the Week. Every accolade is well deserved, as Elmore played his first tournament event outside the IJGT Discovery Tour. Elmore managed to keep up with older and more experienced competitors and string together some great shots over the weekend. Finishing in second place is one thing, but to be the youngest player in the field and maintain composure all weekend is a big accomplishment. Congratulations to Elmore, and the IJGT cannot wait to see how his game develops.

Northeast Tour

C.J. Hughes

The IJGT Major Championship at Hershey last weekend was a great opportunity for golfers to showcase their talents, compete against one another, and hopefully learn from the experience of himself. C.J. Hughes of Indiana, Pa., pictured here, did not let the opportunity pass him by, and finished second in the Major Championship. Besides Hughes’s impressive second-place finish over the weekend, he has also finished in the top 10 for five of his last six events played on the IJGT this season. His scorecard for the IJGT Major Championship at Hershey included back-to-back birdies that helped keep him afloat during the final round. Congratulations on what has become a fantastic season on the IJGT, and for earning this week’s Photo of the Week honors.
