Perrine earns title in Boys 15-19 Division
Lee collects first victory at Shackamaxon
SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued the 2015 Fall Season with the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy. Junior golfers ages 10-19 years old representing three different states competed in the 36-hole Major Championship for double IJGT Merit Points and National Rankings.
Bennett Perrine of West Windsor, N.J., earned the title in the Boys 15-19 Division at the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy. He carded rounds of 73-78 at Shackamaxon Country Club, which was designed by famed course architect A.W. Tillinghast. Perrine’s first-round score of 3-over, 73 was the best round of the tournament in any division, and featured three birdies and 10 pars. Perrine took a four-stroke lead into the final round.
Perrine knew that the title was in his control provided that he played the type of golf he was capable of playing. Even without his best game, Perrine was able to make 14 pars on the day to secure his first IJGT victory.
“I wanted to come into today and play the same way I did yesterday. I wanted to be loose and relaxed and not worry about the scoreboard,” commented Perrine.
In the Girls Division there was another first-time winner with Kaitlyn Lee of Scarsdale, N.Y., winning the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy title. Lee recorded a tournament total of 161. In the first round, Lee made one birdie on her front nine en route to an 84, which gave her a very comfortable lead going into the final round.
Lee was determined to improve the next day, and she did just that carding a 77 including two birdies and 10 pars. Lee recorded her first IJGT tournament victory and also posted her first competitive round in the 70s.
“I think I played well and this was the first time I broke 80 in a tournament,” said Lee.
Lee’s final-round score of 77 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award which goes to the boy and girl that record the lowest final round score in each IJGT tournament.
Luke Sample of New York, N.Y., continued his winning ways in the Boys 14 & Under Division claiming victory in the first Major Championship of the 2015-2016 Season. Sample carded rounds of 76 and 75 to earn a five-shot victory. Sample created some space between him and the rest of the field following his opening round of 76, which included 10 pars and one birdie.
Sample got off to a great start in the final round making eight straight pars to begin the day. From there, Sample overcame two double-bogeys with seven pars in his last 10 holes to earn the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy crown. This was Sample’s second victory of the Fall 2015 Season, with the first coming at the Labor Day Classic at Hershey Country Club.
“This fall I have been playing well and I am very excited about the rest of the IJGT season,” said Sample.
Sample and Carter Nunez of South Orange, N.J., earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award with their final-round scores of 75.
Nunez was able to vault his way into second place with his great final round finishing with a tournament total of 156. Will Tormey of Bronxville, N.Y., ended the day in third place after carding a tournament score of 165.
The IJGT will travel to York, Pa., for the Pennsylvania Junior at Out Door Country Club on Oct. 31 – Nov. 1, 2015. The last tournament of the Fall 2015 Season in the Northeast will feature national rankings and IJGT Merit Points. To sign up for this event, or others, visit IJGT.com or call (844) 779-3374.
