Lee collects first victory at Shackamaxon

SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued the 2015 Fall Season with the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy. Junior golfers ages 10-19 years old representing three different states competed in the 36-hole Major Championship for double IJGT Merit Points and National Rankings.

Bennett Perrine of West Windsor, N.J., earned the title in the Boys 15-19 Division at the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy. He carded rounds of 73-78 at Shackamaxon Country Club, which was designed by famed course architect A.W. Tillinghast. Perrine’s first-round score of 3-over, 73 was the best round of the tournament in any division, and featured three birdies and 10 pars. Perrine took a four-stroke lead into the final round.

Perrine knew that the title was in his control provided that he played the type of golf he was capable of playing. Even without his best game, Perrine was able to make 14 pars on the day to secure his first IJGT victory.

“I wanted to come into today and play the same way I did yesterday. I wanted to be loose and relaxed and not worry about the scoreboard,” commented Perrine.

Finishing in second place was Daniel Berkson of Scarsdale, N.Y., with a tournament total of 153. Dylan Plis of Camillus, N.Y., took home third place with a tournament score of 157.

In the Girls Division there was another first-time winner with Kaitlyn Lee of Scarsdale, N.Y., winning the Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy title. Lee recorded a tournament total of 161. In the first round, Lee made one birdie on her front nine en route to an 84, which gave her a very comfortable lead going into the final round.

Finishing in second place was Anna Bowman of Westfield, N.J., with a tournament total of 175. Katherine Vieser of Bernardsville, N.J., collected third place after carding a tournament score of 183.

Sample carded rounds of 76 and 75 to earn a five-shot victory. IJGT College Series at Penn State University – Final results (Oct. 19, 2014)

Kulikowski gets the victory at Penn State, winning by two strokes
Greenplate brings home first for Boys 14 & Under

The IJGT hosted the College Series at Penn State University at the university’s Blue Golf Course on October 18-19, 2014. This was the first of the final three tournaments for the Northeast Tour this fall 2014 season. Each junior competed for IJGT merit points and national rankings.

KulikowskiDouglas Kulikowski of Pittsford, N.Y., carried over his round-one lead in through to the finish in the Boys 15-19 Division. Combining scores of 73 and 74 for a tournament total 147, Kulikowski finished two strokes ahead of his competition. With the help of nine pars and four birdies, he held off comebacks by second-place winners Adam Gray of Potomac, Md., and Dylan Plis of Camilius N.Y. Kulikowski led by five heading into round two and despite a struggle with bogeys in his final round, he maintained a three-stroke lead over the division for the win. Gray and Plis shared second place with a two-day total of 149.

“My iron game was the strongest part [of my game] and I was able to roll in some putts on top of that,” said Kulikowski.

Gray’s second-round 1-under-par 71 earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior with the lowest final round of tournament play.

Greenplate copyWinning by large margin was Evan Greenplate of York, Pa., in the Boys 14 & Under Division. Greenplate led round one by seven strokes before kicking off his round-two effort. He birdied the par-4 hole No. 1 before going on to add nine pars and a second birdie for a final-round score of 78.

“All I was trying to do was sink putts and not get ahead of myself,” said Greenplate. He finished a tournament-total 157 highlighted by 19 total pars and three birdies.

In second was Jeremy Summerson of Victor, N.Y., with a total 166 and Garrett Engle of Harrisburg, Pa., rounded out the top-three with a total 168.

Parker 1

In the Girls Division, Victoria Parker of Lewiston, N.Y., finished in first place. Parker shared the divisional lead with Haley Bookholdt of Columbus, N.J., after round one but pulled ahead in round two for the win. Both Parker and Bookholdt carded two birdies on their second rounds but it was the consistency of Parker’s game that allowed her to finish on top. Parker added nine pars to Bookholdt’s four, putting her in a two-stroke lead for the win. Parker finished with a two-day total 159. Parker’s final-round 78 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the girls.

“My short game is the best part of my game and anything within 100 yards I can stick close,” said Parker.

Bookholdt finished in second with scores of 81 and 80 for a tournament total 161. Rounding out the top three was Megan McLean of Lebanon, N.J., with a total 165.

Team Canada takes home the John Clark Trophy in 2014 Euro Junior Cup

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – IJGT’s Team USA took to Drumoig Golf Club today, August 8, 2014, for the final round of the 2014 Euro Junior Golf Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland.  The weather was perfect when the teams took to the course but changed very quickly as the teams rounded the turn.  The inclement weather lead to a cancellation of the round in which only one complete group had finished.  At the conclusion of tournament, Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Team Canada finished with 43.5 points and took home the John Clark Trophy.  Following in second was FIFE’s Team Scotland with 41.5 Points in third was Team USA with 32 points.

Team USA played well again in the incomplete final round but could not come away with the points needed.  Danny Dougherty of Wilmington, Del., continued his hot streak winning both points and making his final total five and a half points to lead Team USA.  Also playing well and grabbing two points for Team USA in round three were playing captain, Cara Basso of Downingtown, Pa., John Kalavritinos of Potomac, Md., and Christopher Chiminski of Penns Park, Pa.  Ryan Hicks of Santa Monica, Calif., once again exhibited a strong performance adding a point and a half.   Also contributing to Team USA’s points were Jack O’Donovan of Pittsford, N.Y., and Dylan Plis of Camillus, N.Y., who each carded a point of their own.  Rounding out the scoring was Michael Ordona of Upland, Calif., who secured a half-point for Team USA.

After the event, non-playing co-captain, Zach Pennington stated, “I am very impressed with not only how our team played today but how we represented the red, white and blue.   We are truly honored to wear these colors in match play against two great teams.  The Canadians and Scots were great competitors and they played well all week.  I am proud of what we did here in Scotland as we arrive home with our head held high.”

Summer Series at Glen Oak Golf Course – Final results

Kase wins Girls Division in a playoff
Plis wins third consecutive Summer Series event

The IJGT continued the Summer Series as it hosted the Summer Series at Glen Oak Golf Course on July 15-16, 2014. The two-day, 36-hole tournament featured a field of 12 juniors from all over the nation competing for national rankings.

mathersConnor Mathers of Brigden, Ontario, carried his round-one momentum into round two where he finished in first place in the Boys 15-19 Division. Following round one, Mathers was tied with Brad Belote of Lancaster, N.Y., but 11 pars and one birdie in round two led him to his victory. Mathers finished three strokes ahead of second place finisher with scores of 77-77 – 154 overall. His five total birdies was the most of the tournament and his second round score of 77 earned Mathers the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award given to juniors who score the lowest in the second round of the tournament.

John Dantanio of Lancaster, Pa., finished in second and recorded scores of 78-79 – 157. Third place was a tie between Jack Boulger of Wapole, Mass., and Belote, who both carded overall scores of 162.

“Practicing with my swing coach really has helped and I had been putting a lot of time in on the driving range to prepare for this tournament,” said Mathers.

KaseIn an exciting race for first in the Girls Division, Lauren Kase of North Tonawanda, N.Y., won in a playoff against Kenaida Mills of Tewksbury Township, N.J. Kase led the division after round one, sitting three strokes in front of Mills, but an improved second round performance by Mills left the pair tied at the end of 36 holes. The par-4 No. 10 was used as the first playoff hole.

Kase teed off first, getting her approach shot to land within 40 feet of the hole. Mills followed and her approach shot missed just short of the green, landing her in the bunker. Despite getting out of the bunker and within 20 feet of the hole, Mills was unable to sink her par putt. Kase, sat just two feet from the hole following her first putt before sinking her putt for par and a victory.

Kase carded scores of 80-83 – 163 overall. “My putting kept me in the round but today was much harder than yesterday,” Kase commented.

Mills finished in second with scores of 83-80 – 163 and earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the Girls Division.

Plis wins second consecutive Summer Series event

The IJGT continued the Summer Series as it hosted the Summer Series at Oyster Reef Golf Club on July 11, 2014. The two-day, 36-hole event was cut short due to severe thunderstorms and heavy rains. Lewis carded par or better on 11 straight holes, two of which were birdies, en route to his victory.

In a tie for second, Kyle Vance of Audubon, Pa., and Hsin-Wei Wu of Taiwan, both carded 3-over-par scores of 75 to complete the winner’s circle. The second-place finish was the first top-three finish for Vance and the first-ever IJGT event for Wu.

“I feels good to win, the course was great,” Lewis said in reference to his first experience with the IJGT.
