IJGT alumna, Erynne Lee, wins Symetra Tour's IOA Championship

IJGT alumna, Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Wash., won the Symetra Tour’s IOA Championship Presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa with a tournament total of 11-under, 205. This was the opening tournament of the 2016 Symetra Tour season and was Lee’s debut performance on the Symetra Tour.

Lee was trailing by four strokes heading into the final round, but she had all cylinders firing en route to a 7-under, 65 in the final round. Her round included six birdies and one eagle, and Lee needed everyone of them to outlast Jessica Wallace of Langley, British Columbia, for the title.

“I worked really hard during the winter time and hard work is paying off,” commented Lee.

With victory Lee guarantees herself full status on the Symetra Tour for the rest of the 2016 season. She also sits in the top position on the Volvik Race to the Card Standings. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, the top 10 players will earn their 2017 LPGA cards.

As a junior on the IJGT, Lee finished in second place at the 2005 IJGT at Sandpiper.

This week was filled with NCAA conference championships, dramatic playoffs and exciting accolades for members of the IJGT ELITE.

Senior Trey Valentine and sophomore Rigel Fernandes helped the University of South Florida Bulls capture the 2015 American Athletic Conference crown. Valentine tied for third with a 7-under 209 tournament total. It was the team’s second conference championship in the past three seasons.

Freshman Chris Petefish counted in all three rounds of the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship, helping the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets win their 16th ACC golf crown.

The NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regional Championships selections were announced live via the Golf Channel on Monday. Ana Ruiz (Oklahoma) and Erynne Lee (UCLA) found out their teams will be competing in the San Antonio regional in Texas. Karen Chung, Kyung Kim and Annie Park (all of USC) found out the Trojans will be competing in the St. George Regional in Utah. To view all of the selections, click here. Best of luck to all the IJGT alums competing in the four regional tournaments on May 7-9. These tournaments will determine the championship field. The NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regional Championships selections will be announced live on the Golf Channel on Monday, May 4 at 10 a.m. ET.

Junior Pat Sanchez (Marquette) earned medalist honors at the Big East Men’s Golf Championship by carding a 1-under 215 tournament total. He fired a 3-under 69 in the final round of the event.

Temple University junior Brandon Matthews was named a PNC Bank Student-Athlete of the Year.

Sophomore Katie Rice and the women’s golf team earned the Team Academic Award at Morehead State for compiling a 3.72 team GPA in the fall.

And, on the LPGA Tour, Morgan Pressel carded an 8-under 280 tournament total to force a playoff in the Swinging Skirts Classic. She ended up finishing second. “I had plenty of chances out there today, so I can’t be too disappointed. I gave it my all,” Pressel said after the tournament.

The IJGT would like to congratulate Beau Hossler of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., on recording his first collegiate win this past weekend! Hossler, a sophomore at the University of Texas, carded a 4-under 212 tournament total during the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational to lead the Longhorns to their second win of the season. He was the only competitor to finish under par and won by five strokes. After the win, Hossler earned Golfweek men’s college golf Player of the Week honors. Fellow IJGT alum Jonathan Garrick (UCLA) tied for fourth with a tournament total of 3-over 219.

The following IJGT ELITE members also recorded top-10 finishes in NCAA tournaments last week:

Bruin Wave Invitational — Los Angeles, CA — March 2-3, 2015

Erynne Lee (UCLA), who finished second in the 2005 IJGT event at The Sandpiper, captured the individual title with an even-par 216 tournament total. She won by a decisive five strokes. The victory marks the fourth of Lee’s career; she’s won one tournament in each of her four seasons.

Eimi Koga (Washington), who finished second in the 2010 IJGT event at Wigwam Resort, tied for eighth with an 8-over 224 tournament total helping lead her team to victory.

2015 National Invitational Tournament — Tucson, AZ — February 28-March 2, 2015

George Cunningham (Arizona), who finished third in the 2010 Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions, tied for second with a 4-under 212 tournament total.

Patrick Winther (Colorado State), who finished in the top three in 17 of 18 IJGT starts, tied for sixth with a 1-under 215.

Querencia Cabo Collegiate — Los Cabos, Mexico — March 1-3, 2015

Rigel Fernandes (South Florida), who recorded a top-10 finish at the 2006 IJGT event at Championsgate, tied for fourth with a 6-under 207 tournament total. He shot a 7-under 64 in round one.

IJGT alum Zach Wright (Louisiana State) tied for 10th with a tournament total of 1-under 212.

Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic –Kiawah Island, SC — March 1-3, 2015

Andrea Slane (Delaware), who finished second in the 2009 IJGT event at Westin Mission Hills, tied for third with an even-par 216 tournament total. She shot a 3-under 69 in round two on the Oak Point course.

30th Annual Louisiana Classics — Lafayette, LA — March 2-3, 2015

Brian Campbell (Illinois), the 2009 IJGT West Mid-Season champion at PGA West, tied for fifth with a 3-under 213 tournament total to help lead his team to victory.

Daniel Hudson, (Kansas), the 2013 IJGT Florida Swing at Harmony Golf Preserve champion, tied for eighth with a 1-under 215 tournament total. He carded a 5-under 67 in round one.

The IJGT would also like to wish good luck to the 16 IJGT alums who are competing in the Cartagena de Indias at Karibana Championship on March 5-8, 2015. These players include Rodolfo Cazaubon, Roberto Diaz, Andres Echavarria, Kevin Foley, Chris Gilman, Hunter Hamrick, Tain Lee, Jamie Lovemark, Timothy Madigan, Martin Piller, Steve Saunders, Trevor Simsby, Kevin Tway, Aaron Watkins, Richy Werenski and Andrew Yun.

The IJGT ELITE competed in tournaments all over the country and in Puerto Rico last week. The following IJGT ELITE members recorded top-10 finishes in NCAA tournaments last week:

The Prestige at PGA West — La Quinta, CA — February 16-18, 2015

IJGT alum Max Rottluff (Arizona State) carded a 10-under 206 to tie for fourth and help lead his team to their third consecutive victory. The last time the Sun Devils won three straight titles was in the spring of 1999. Rottluff finished second in the Prestige at PGA West last year.

Puerto Rico Classic — Rio Grande, Puerto Rico — February 22-24, 2015

Billy Kennerly (Clemson), the second-place winner in the 2009 IJGT event at Reynolds Plantation, shot 2-under 70s in all three rounds to finish with a tournament total of 6-under 210, good for third.

Puerto Rico Individual — Rio Grande, Puerto Rico — February 22-24, 2015

Chris Petefish (Georgia Tech), the 2012 PURE Grips Jr. Open at Troon North champion, tied for first with a tournament total of even-par 213.

IJGT alum Alex Ehlert (UNC Greensboro) finished third with a tournament total of 6-over 219. He carded seven birdies in round three.

Philippe Schweizer (Purdue), the 2008 IJGT at Bent Tree Boys 12 & Under Division champion, finished eighth.

All-State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate — New Orleans, LA — February 22-24, 2015

Maria Torres (Florida), who earned a second-place finish in the 2006 IJGT event at The Legends, tied for seventh with a 5-over 221 tournament total. Her team tied for second.

Erynne Lee (UCLA), who finished second in the 2005 IJGT event at The Sandpiper, finished third with a 1-under 215 tournament. Her team finished in a tie for second.

The Loyola Golf Invite — Goodyear, AZ — February 22-24, 2015

IJGT alum Brandon Kida (Utah)’s 2-under 214 tournament total landed him in a tie for fifth place.

Broc Johnson (Arizona State), a top-three finisher in two IJGT tournaments, won with a 9-under 207 tournament total.

Jones Invitational — Valencia, CA — February 23-24, 2015

Jordan Rodgers (Brigham Young), who recorded a third-place finish at the 2008 IJGT tournament at Temecula Creek, carded a 1-under 71 in the first and third rounds. He finished with a 1-under 215 tournament total to tie for sixth place.

Michael Pugh (Fresno State), the 2011 champion in the IJGT event at The Legends Golf Club, carded an 8-under 64 in round two. He finished in a tie for sixth with a 1-under 215 tournament total.

Lady Cougar Classic — Columbus, GA — February 23-24, 2015

Ceha Lee (Lander), a three-time IJGT champion, finished third to help lead her team to victory.

Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate — Hilton Head Island, SC — February 23-24, 2015

J.T. Poston (Western Carolina), the 2009 IJGT champion at Ballantyne Resort, finished first with a 2-under 142 tournament total.

It’s that time of year! Conference championships were in full swing the last few weeks, and they displayed just how successful the IJGT ELITE is in NCAA competition. With 63 players finishing in the top-10 of a multitude of conference championships, the end of the season is really beginning to showcase just how well our alumni compete at the next level of competition.

In addition to the vast amount of top-10 finishes, seven conference championships were won by our alumni, with wins coming in the following conferences: the SEC Women’s, SoCon Men’s, Atlantic Sun Men’s, Ohio Valley Men’s, Patriot League Men’s, Big West Men’s, and the Mid-American Women’s!

Congrats to all of our alumni, and with the NCAA Championships coming up soon, the IJGT ELITE positioned themselves well to continue their season-long success!

The IJGT ELITE continues their strong showings in the NCAA, with 26 members earning top-10 finishes in the last two weeks. With several repeat players, as well as some newcomers to the IJGT ELITE, the last two weeks have been exceptional for the IJGT alumni in the collegiate ranks. One tournament in particular, the Wildcat Invitational, showcased six IJGT ELITE members in the top-5! Three players also won individual medalist honors, with Christina Vosters (Penn State), Chris Crawford (Drexel), and Karen Chung (Southern Cal) all claiming victory in the last few weeks.

Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate – March 23-25, 2014 – Williamsburg, Va.

Poom Pattaropong (James Madison), who recorded eight top-3 finishes on the IJGT, finished tied for tenth with a 6-over, 216.

Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate – March 23-25, 2014 – Awendaw, S.C.

Danny Guise (Wake Forest), the 2010 IJGT Champion at Long Island Golf Club, shot a 3-under, 213 to tie for eighth place.

Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian – March 24-25, 2014 – Palm City, Fla.

Kevin Dougherty (Oklahoma State), the 2009 IJGT Champion at Temecula Creek, finished the tournament in a tie for tenth place after shooting a 3-under, 210.

UTSA – Lone Star Invitational – March 24-25, 2014 – San Antonio, Texas

Owen Taylor (Sacramento State), a top-10 finisher in 2010 on the IJGT at the 59 Belt at Pala Mesa Resort, recorded a second-place finish with a 6-under, 210.

The Duck Invitational – March 24-25, 2014 – Creswell, Ore.

Tyler Torano (Loyola Marymount), who earned a second-place finish in 2008 on the IJGT at Twin Oaks, shot a 2-over, 218 to tie for sixth place.

Briar’s Creek Invitational – March 24-25, 2014 – John’s Island, S.C.

Matt Fry (Towson), who finished in second at the 2010 IJGT Mid-Season Championship, tied for sixth place with a 6-over, 150.

Gemma Fuster (Old Dominion), a 2006 top-10 finisher on the IJGT at Saddlebrook, finished in a tie for tenth with a 7-over, 223.

Peter Kim (Army), who had two top-3 finishes on the IJGT, finished in second place with a 3-over, 216.

Harrison Shih (Columbia), the 2010 IJGT Champion at Blue Heron Pines, finished in a tie for third place with a 6-over, 219.

Kyle Wambold (Binghamton), who tied for second in 2012 at The IJGT Jersey Championship at Architects, also tied for third place with a 6-over, 219 score.

Dan Costenbader (Delaware), the 2009 IJGT Champion at Seaview, finished in a tie for fifth place with a 7-over, 220.

CHAMPION: Karen Chung (Southern Cal), a 9-time top-5 finisher on the IJGT, won the individual medalist honors with an 8-under, 208.

Erynne Lee (UCLA), who took second in 2005 at the IJGT’s event at the Sandpiper, tied for fifth place with her score of 1-over, 217.

It has been another week of NCAA competitions, and another week of the IJGT ELITE dominating at the collegiate level. 18 golfers posted Top-10 finishes this week in NCAA competition, with four ELITE members hoisting individual trophies this week at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, the Sacramento State Invitational, the Bruin Wave Invitational, and the 18th Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic.

At the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, Katia Joo (Boston College) scored a 4-over 220 to tie for first, roaring back from starting in ninth place on the final day of competition. Over at the Sacramento State Invitational, Lawrence Ree (Loyola Marymount) competed as an individual and scored a 4-under-par 212 to tie for the individual win.  The Bruin Wave Invitational, where the IJGT ELITE was extraordinarily represented, was won by Kyung Kim (Southern Cal) after she shot a 3-under-par 213 for the tournament. And at the 18th Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic, Kevin Lee (Long Beach State) fired an 8-under-par 202 to take the individual crown.

Brian Campbell (Illinois), the 2009 IJGT West Mid-Season Champion at PGA West, posted a 15-under 201 to place second. He was also named the Big 10 Co-Golfer of the Week!

Jacob Stockl (Rutgers), the 2010 IJGT Champion at Hershey Country Club, finished in ninth, shooting a 5-over 221.

 Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate – Harmony FL – March 3-5, 2014

Ted Brennan (Villanova), who had 11 Top-10 finishes on the IJGT, shot a 3-over 219 to tie for tenth.

 Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate – Pine Mountain, GA – March 1-2, 2014

Jeff Wells (Methodist Univ.), a third-place finisher in 2008 on the IJGT at Twin Oaks,  tied for third place with an even-par 144.

Cory Howard (LaGrange College), who had a Top-25 finish in 2009 on the IJGT at TPC Sawgrass, tied for ninth with a 5-over 149.

Tommy McCloskey (Berry College), a Top-20 finisher in 2011 on the IJGT at Oyster Reef, tied for ninth with a 5-over 149.

Tyler Torano (Loyola Marymount), a 2007 IJGT Tournament of Champions Top-20 finisher, fired a 2-under 214 to finish tied for third.

Annie Freman (Santa Clara), who finished second on the IJGT in 2009 at Sycuan Resort, tied for fifth with an even-par 216.

Cassy Isagawa (Oregon), the 2008 IJGT Champion at Temecula Creek, also tied for fifth with an even-par 216.

 Davidson College Invitational – March 3-4, 2014

Chris Crawford (Drexel), who had a Top-10 finish on the IJGT in 2009 at Seaview, earned a fifth place finish with his 3-over 147.

Jack Smith (Tennessee), the 2011 IJGT Major Champion at Greenbrier, finished in sixth with a 4-over 148.

Bruin Wave Invitational – Tarzana, CA – March 3-4, 2014

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION: Kyung Kim (Southern Cal), IJGT Top-10 at 2006 Rancho Bernardo

Annie Park (Southern Cal), the 2006 IJGT Champion at the Architect’s Club, finished tied for second place with a 2-under 214.

Marissa Chow (Pepperdine), the 2008 IJGT Champion at The Tribute Golf Club, tied for fourth place, shooting an even-par 216. 

Notable Mention: Erynne Lee (UCLA), who finished in second place in 2005 on the IJGT at The Sandpiper, scored a HOLE-IN-ONE on the the par 3, 6th hole at the host course, El Caballero Country Club!

The IJGT ELITE Class continues to shine in the NCAA ranks, with 14 alumni scoring in the top 10 of NCAA tournaments, including an impressive win by Marta Sanz (Auburn) at the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational.

Blake Cannon (Arizona State), the fourth-place finisher at the 2010 IJGT Tournament of Champions, recorded a third place finish, with a 10-under-par 206, at the Snowman Getaway Invitational on February 25, 2014 in Goodyear, Arizona.

Annie Freman (Santa Clara), a repeat Top-three finisher on the IJGT, tied for sixth with a 13-over-par 229 at the Grand Canyon Women’s Spring Invitational on February 25, 2014 in Litchfield Park, Arizona.

Beau Hossler (Texas), who was a third-place finisher at the 2007 IJGT Tournament of Champions, shot a 4-under-par 212 to tie for seventh at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship on February 23, 2014 in Houston, Texas.

Jason Roets (North Texas), who had 20 Top-5 finishes on the IJGT, tied for sixth at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on February 25, 2014 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, recording a three-under 213 for the tournament.

Jerry Ruiz (Baylor), a top-three finisher in IJGT merit points in 2007, tied for fifth at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, shooting a six-under 210 for the tournament, on February 23, 2014 in Houston, Texas.

Marta Sanz, a Top-three finisher in six IJGT tournaments, won the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational with an eight-under 208 on February 25, 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Rachel Welker (Eastern Kentucky), a Top-10 finisher on the IJGT in several tournaments, tied for seventh, shooting a nine-over 225, at the 12th Annual USA Women’s Invitational on February 25, 2014 in Mobile, Alabama.
