Boys 15- 19 Division has one hole play-off.
Kweon claims Girls Division.
Lopatcong, N.J.– The International Junior Golf Tour continued their series in Lopatcong, N.J. for the Spring Architects Cup. Finally feeling like spring, over a 100 players competed this weekend. Players competed for National Rankings and IJGT Merit Points. The top five players in each division earned preferred entry into any IJGT Major Championship and the Champions of each division earned an invitation to the 2016 IJGT Tournament of Champions.
The Boys 15-19 Division had an exciting round two, with two players fighting for the championship that resulted in a playoff. Matt Graeff and DJ Griffiths both shot a one under par to compete in the play off. Graeff, from Blue Bell, P.A., had a round one score of 70 and shot even par on round two. Griffiths, of Binghamton, N.Y., fired a 73 in round one and had a comeback in round two carding a 68. Graeff claimed the champion title after a one hole playoff, where he had a birdie. Right behind the leaders, there was a tie for third. Andrew Lombardo and James McHugh shot even par to tie.
“The course was scoreable and I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. The best shot I had during the tournament was my tee shot on 16. I hit a great tee shot and stuck my second shot from 170 yards. It was the best shot because I knew where I stood and it was a pressure moment. Being the champion feels great because you always envision yourself in a playoff and winning it,” said Graeff.
With eleven boys competing in the Boys 14 & Under Division, Maxwell Sorger took the first place title home. Sorger, of Montclair, N.J., shot a 9 over par, a total of 151. Coming in 3 strokes behind Sorger was Jude Cummings. Cummings, of Pittsford, N.Y., shot a total of 154. Stephen Lorenzo, of Lower Gwynedd, P.A., took the third place title with a total of 156.
“My mind set was simple; come in and put up a good number, and if I did that I would have a chance. My best shot was my second shot on 18, I hit it close from 170 yards and made the birdie putt. I credit my short-to-mid irons for my win today,” remarked Sorger.
The Girls Division also had the top three players at a close range. Shooting a three-over par was Jessie Kweon. Kweon, of Little Neck, N.Y., had five birdies and nothing higher than a bogey. One stroke behind the leader was Katie Lee. Lee, of Ringoes, N.J., fired a total of 146. There was a tie for third place between Caroline Hodge and Esther Park. Both girls shot six-over par, a total of 148.
Each tournament the IJGT recognizes the Low Final round thanks to our sponsor Clazic Belts. At the Spring Architects Cup the winners were:
Caroline Hodge– 72
Esther Park– 72
John Updike– 68
