Dominic Wagner featured in IJGT Photo of the Week –March 19, 2015

The IJGT’s Northeast Tour traveled to Lorton, Va., to host the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill on March 14-15, 2015. Juniors braved rain and wind while competing for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings during the two-day, 36-hole event.

After the tournament, a photo of the Boys 15-19 Division champion, Dominic Wagner of Alexandria, Va., was selected as the IJGT Photo of the Week. Wagner birdied the final hole in round two to win his division by a single stroke. His round two score of 78 also earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of the event. To read more about Wagner’s exciting victory click here.

Dhruva, Cordaro earn IJGT Player of the Week honors – March 17, 2015

The IJGT traveled to Lorton, Va., to host the first northeast event of the spring season, the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill, on March 14-15, 2015. Juniors played through rain in round one and wind in round two of the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT is proud to award Player of the Week honors to Katy, Texas native Ashni Dhruva and Anthony Cordaro of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Dhruva recorded the lowest score in the entire field in round one, an even-par 71. She carded a division-best five birdies on Saturday including back-to-back birdies on holes No. 4 and 5. Dhruva finished second in the Girls Division with a tournament total of 155. The IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill was Dhruva’s second IJGT event, she also finished second in the IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes earlier this month.

Cordaro knocked five strokes off his round one 84 to card a 79 in round two, good for a two-day total of 163 and a share of fourth place in the Boys 15-19 Division. He made par a division-best 20 times and his longest par-or-better streak came on holes No. 7 through 11 in round two.

Wagner wins Boys 15-19 Division by a single stroke

Brooks comes from behind to win Girls Division  

The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to Laurel Hill Golf Club to host the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill on March 14-15, 2015. The competitors played through rainy conditions in round one and had to navigate 20 mph winds, with gusts up to 40 mph, in round two. Despite challenging conditions, the juniors performed admirably while competing for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Dominic WagnerDominic Wagner (left) of Alexandria, Va., birdied the final hole in round two to edge out Chantilly, Va., native Vishal Giri and win the Boys 15-19 Division by a single stroke. The birdie on hole No. 18 was Wagner’s second of the tournament; his first came on the par-4 sixth hole in round one. He knocked one stroke off his round one score of 79 to card a 78 in round two, good for a tournament total of 157 and his first IJGT victory.

After shooting an 80 in round one, second-place finisher Giri matched Wagner’s 78 in round two. The pair shared the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of the event.

Giri finished with a two-day total of 158. Fairfax Station, Va., native David Rabil rounded out the Boys 15-19 Division with a tournament total of 160.

Shannon BrooksVienna, Va., native Shannon Brooks (left) came from behind to win the Girls Division by two strokes. Brooks, who has committed to play golf at the University of Tennessee next season, carded back-to-back birdies on the par-3 fourth hole and the par-5 fifth hole in round one. She finished the first round with a 5-over 76, five strokes behind the round one leader, Ashni Dhruva of Katy, Texas. In round two, Brooks made par on holes No. 4 through 11 and birdied hole No. 18 to finish with a 6-over 77, earning her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the girls. Brooks finished with a tournament total of 153.

Dhruva led the field in round one with an even-par 71. She carded five birdies in the first round including back-to-back birdies on holes No. 4 and 5. She finished the tournament with a two-day total of 155, good for second place in the Girls Division.

 

SatouriS. Dean Satouri (left) of Chantilly, Va., built off his round one lead to win the Boys 14 & Under Division. His division-best 83 in round one combined with his round two 92 earned him a 175 tournament total and the Boys 14 & Under Division title.

New Market, Md., native Christopher Lee carded an 89 in both rounds good for a tournament total of 178 and second place in the Boys 14 & Under Division.

IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill – Round one recap (March 14, 2015)

To kick off the Northeast Tour, the IJGT traveled to Lorton, Va., to host the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill. Juniors teed off beginning at 10 a.m. for round one of the two-day, 36-hole event. In review, below are each division’s leaders’ rounds, in numbers.

David Rabil of Fairfax Station, Va., leads the Boys 15-19 Division. His round in numbers:

2 – Rabil’s two birdies came on the par-5 ninth hole and the par-4 10th hole

75 – His 4-over round one score to carry the lead

11 – Rabil made par a division-best 11 times in round one

3 – He leads the division by three strokes

Ashni Dhruva of Katy, Texas, leads the Girls Division. Her round in numbers:

71- Her even-par score to lead the division

5 – Dhruva carded five birdies in round one

2 – She carded back-to-back birdies on the par-3 hole No. 4 and the par-5 hole No. 5

4.5 – Her average on par-5s

Chantilly, Va., native S. Dean Satouri leads the Boys 14 & Under Division. His round in numbers:
